World Item Retrieval From Hoppers

I don't know if this is a common problem, but I find myself occasionally dropping the wrong item into hoppers. Sometimes it's not too bad, but I have lost some rather important items. To my knowledge there's no way to retrieve these items, but with the potential to lose such important items it seems like there should be. I realize the issue can be avoided by rebinding your "drop item" key, but this still seems like a rather large problem that can't be hard to fix. I've come up with a few solutions in no particular order:

1) Only allow the requested items through, leave all other items in the hopper to be retrieved by opening the hopper like in Vanilla.

2) Spit out any item other than the requested tokens/drops.

3) Allow players to "lock" items to prevent them from accidentally being dropped.

as for the ideas

1, opening hoppers is a horrible idea, this would allow players to be able to look into hoppers and see whats reqired for them to work along with other things

2, like with dispencers? then other players would be able to pick them up before you anyway, and im pretty sure this is impossible any other way

3, there are mods for that

my suggestion for you, rebind your drop key

 

3) Is the Item locks suggestion. Look it up.
They can do this easily by changing it so that the hopper is a filter-hopper, and will only absorb some items
Here's a tip while waiting for that: bind "drop" to o or something. You will never misclick.

 

As an "alternate idea" i propose a really nice fix to highlighted issue.
Go into "options" , then "controls", find "Drop selected item" and bind it to a key that you don't use.
Alternatively you can just pay attention to what you drop to the hoopers :)

I’m pretty sure they use filter hoppers, but it would be harder to make the hopper on top be a filter hopper because the red stone would be hard to hide

A legitimately helpful tip: Check the search bar when making suggestions to check that you aren’t repeating the same stuff. If there is a bigger thread with the same idea, show your support for that thread instead.

If you really want it to stop dropping items use a mod or unbind your Q. You can also rebind it to something farther away.
