Update To 1.13

Hello, Tiger here. I just wanted to talk about the 1.13 update and Wynncraft.
So there are a few new mobs to 1.13, swimming mechanics and more. I think it would be a GREAT idea to upgrade the WHOLE server to 1.13 ONLY because you could add more mobs to the game such as phantoms and polar bears. You could also re-texture them and make them even more unique! It would also be cool to have the swimming mechanics so it would be more fun to swim around in the ocean searching for treasures or doing quests. There are just too many features to mention therefore i'll just let you guys discuss it in the chat down below :D

Well, it sounds great, if only it didn’t break the game. The code isn’t designed for 1.13 and would, more or less, have to be completely rewritten. . .

 

It'll take at least a year for the devs to fully upgrade the server to 1.13. We're not even in 1.9 right now, which came out early 2016. I'm expecting the 1.9 upgrade soon-ish (I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out with 1.18) along with 1.10 (extremely small update with extremely small changes). After that I just can't tell, it's too far off in the future

 

as stated above, the devs cant jsut snap a finger and magically port everything to 1.13.

 

This will take a long time to make it possible

 

well, there is lore that thanos is in the WCU, but maybe that's a bad idea...

to be real though, this would take a really long time, with the limits of Minecraft, it would take over 2 YEARS just for them to transfer V1.12.2 to V1.13.1 (that's not even counting the other versions)
and by that time, Minecraft may as well be in 1.17

 

A lot of command blocks are used in the server, and 1.13 totally revamps command syntax so half of them will need to be rewritten to work.

 

Wasn’t there already a whole thread about this? I remember replying in it, but not the name.

 

It’s funny how Mojang is like “lol you guys need to do command block work on your server?” That’s neat and all but uh... REWRITE COMMAND SYSTEM

 

We actually already support all 1.13 features and mobs ^^
We just haven't released any yet ~(o.o~)
(They look like other mobs in older versions)

Man your magic is impressive!

"Frostburn update" with magma blocks, polar bears, bone block and other not really crazy feature. The biggest one in here is probably the structure block.

It won't a good idea to add this for (several) years in the future

I can already imagine flying phantoms all over dern, hunting down players

 

I can imagine a corrupted desert with concrete powder, if the resource pack is up to date with that.

 

Soooooo that means that you dont have to rewrite everything? Which means that you can upgrade the whole server to 1.13?? Which means more features?!?!?!!??

 

As Wynncraft is one of the only large ish server without pvp and I think we would all like wynn to be 1.13/1.13.1, but the only problem is if you kept up with the news and snapshots all the way through 1.13, you will see that so many maps with just the simplest of commands would simply not work. Don't believe me? Look at all the people who have had their maps/command blocks creations broken by this simple update.

Otherwise a good idea :P

 

As others have said:

• This would take a lot of work.
• Many things would outright break.
• It would take forever to port.

And a few new things:

• All Wynn mods would be unusable until they got updated 999999 years later. (unimportant depending on who you are, but still)
• Making things work (balance-wise) with the new water mechanics.
• All developments on things the community cares about more (ie Dern, Fruma, reworks, etc.) would be halted for that long time, making the community more restless and leading to less new players and more players quitting.
