I picked up this idea from Discord.

On Discord you can do an @Everyone tag that tags everyone in the channel. I suggest a similar thing here.

Some kind of @Everyone tag that tags all the people who watch the thread.

That way for forum games, theory/lore threads, and whatnot you don't need to tag all the important people when something big happens. Just one tag that sends a notification to everyone who watches the thread.

Naturally since no one actually uses "watch and receive email notifications" it would not matter if you get the emails or not, the @Everyone would still work if you do or don't.

(Before you ask, no, there's no one who's name is Everyone, don't worry, I checked)



I don't imagine it would be too hard to implement?

1) Notifications sometimes don't go through so you think nothing is happening when serious sh*t may be going down

2) It helps direct everyone to a specific message, and makes sure everyone sees that specific one

3) It helps highlight stuff that would usually be grouped under "there may be more messages after this" in the notifications

Every time you pushed out the "it's now the next day/night" message wouldn't it be useful to have an @Everyone tag so everyone in the game gets a notification?

Huh? I honestly don't see what you're suggesting here. You can watch any thread, and choose whether you receive emails or not. How would @Everyone affect this?

 

Actually no this is a stupid idea why would you tag everyone that watches the thread? when they already get alerts, think with your brain please!

I will edit the OP to explain, but here's the reason:

A lot of the time, notifications on threads freeze. Idk if the forums just randomly decides you don't care and stops sending you notifications until you open the thread or whatever, but it's happened MANY times that I (not only me, I've talked to others who this happens to also) just don't receive the notifications. Meaning they think nothing is happening on the thread, but important stuff may be happening.

FURTHERMORE if Bob sends a message then Joe does and a hig discussion takes place where Rick clear it up, chances are only Bob and Joe's original comments will be sent as notifications. Rick's helpful insight won't get a notification, despite being the most important message.

 

I'm quite sure this is an intended feature. Note, that when a watched thread gets posted onto, the notification is "This dude replied to the thread. There may be more posts after this.". This is to prevent your alerts to be spammed with notifications. If you continue to ignore this notification, you will stop receiving alerts about new posts on the thread.

 

So the @everyone is not going to function like that?

 

Exactly. It prevents notification spam. But what if one of those future notifications is important that the thread creator wants to point out?

And often times, even if you don't ignore the notification and you do go and see the thread, it just random stops giving you notifications.

Read again. It tags everyone who watches the thread, not everyone on the forums

Yes, one saying there's a new comment, once saying they were tagged in a comment

But often times it glitches out or stuff (for some people at least)

 

But what if Bob died sealing away the eye and so his last words were indeed the most important comment.

 

It works fine for me, and if I'm watching a thread I'm usually posting in it anyways and get notifications from replies. Just fix the glitch then instead of putting in a spammable command, even if it's just people who watch the thread.
