World Gender Options

I first came to the realization when I played through the "A Marauder's Dues" quest.
In the last line spoken by one of the quest characters, he refers to you as "boy". You can look at the dialogue on the Wynncraft wiki.

There are a few other quests that mention you as a dude, just too lazy to find them. Yes, a minor concern, but it would be a nice little feature if the server would recognized your gender. Maybe a quick in-game question that would be a saved variable in future quests should do. Another option is just remove all mentions of the player's gender entirely.

(Also sorry for the lack of effort, I really don't see how this can be expanded upon)

This would require way too much work for the developers. Just imagine modifying every line of dialogue in the whole game and looking back at thousands of command blocks. We don't need a gender update.

 

I understand how useless this is. Too much work, no major difference. That is why I underlined the part where I said, "remove all mention of the players gender". It should be simple, just go to every piece of dialogue and remove it. If its really that hard to do, please explain to me.
[Edit] This suggestion isnt supposed to be taken completely seriously. I just thought it would be pretty weird if a female who was playing to suddenly be called a guy.

 

I doubt it's easy to determine someone's gender if they're wearing tons of armor. Besides, some quests such as royal trials intentionally act as if you were female.

 

I know nothing about command blocks, but this shouldn't be difficult to do in any other language.

However, the only purpose it would serve is improving the player's immersion a tiny bit.

Who knows? Maybe a bored cmd will spend a few hours doing it. +1 but only if it could be quickly done.

I think on an RPG server, it's not too hard to imagine that you're one gender or another despite what the text says. Just because the dialogue of a quest refers to you as 'boy' doesn't mean you can't read it as 'girl' or 'strange swamp creature of indeterminable gender'.

That's the great thing about Role-Play and imagination! You can be referred to as warlord cyborg-like creature that rules the galaxy and has a human profile picture on the Wynncraft forums in the dialogue! You just have to imagine they're saying 'warlord cyborg-like creature that rules the galaxy and has a human profile picture on the Wynncraft forums' instead of 'Boy'!

 

So, let me get this straight. You're making a decision for a group that you are not a part of and then assuming that they'll agree with you?

This game is labeled as a "role-playing game," and if I notice that some NPC (in this case, Volmor)says "boy (or something like that)" I can think (if I'm role-playing):

1. Pretend he said "girl," or "toaster," or something.
2. Think "oh, he just mistook me as a guy"

If I'm not role-playing, I can dismiss it as "well, most of the people who play Wynncraft are guys, and it's simpler to cater to the largest group. Using one gender gives a sense of continuity, and it's easier to remember which pronoun to type."

 

While I agree it's easy to look over the specification of a gender, there's something to note. we atm are on a mc server that tries and takes itself seriously, it is by far most an almost stand alone game. allowing even a slight mistake because you couldn't be bothered to fix it, is well shameful.

I recommend removing them from the game, as it's an easy word choice fix, and you know shouldn't take very long. and pls don't say you can't, its a simple matter of a few mins.

now I shall put a few lines as to why this is a bit of a larger fuck up than small on. while learning how to design rpg's one of the main things you will learn is to not specify anything the player doesn't decide for their self. A great example of this is when fallout 2 added a sex, "yes sex" calculation, to see how good you were at the act depending on your states. here's the thing, after they did this, the makers decided it was a shitty idea, simply because it didn't allow the player to decided how good their character was at it.

On a side note, who ever said our character was wearing that much armor? my character could be wearing very little, light, or even no armor at all, depending who im rp as. so that's a really bad excuse because it takes you out of your character to about the same agree.

last time I checked, the rp aspect of a RPG is both in the gameplay and is important.
Kinda like that name the drinks suggestion, it doesnt add anything beyound a more believeble world, who says this is any different.

 

last i checked one word doesn't make any kind of significant impact in roleplay or otherwise

besides, gameplay is more important in an RPG than the roleplay, since otherwise you may as well just actually roleplay

maybe if this changed more than 3 letters it would be worth it, but it doesn't and so it isn't

 

3 letters can have a lot of impact. and yes, a word can make a large impact on the game. Its the reason video games like new vegas try and make sure there are as many options in dialog and choice that they can fit in, as well as allowing the player to play, and be who every they wish.
one more thing, I'm sure taking like 2 mins to change such a minor thing couldn't hurt them.

anyway, I don't really see any point in adding a gender option since it's basically meaningless in a game/server like this since it adds basically nothing of importance. It's even not like in other games where your selected gender affects the sounds you make when you get hurt for example since you can't do that in MC.

 

So, basically, you're saying they don't really care about the server, nor treat it as a stand alone game?
