Maybe, in the ship, you find a room that needs the key, you find a pick axe mob in there. You then see a hole in that room which leads to a little cave. In the cave, there is a big rock which you need to dig with the pickaxe to enter the dungeon, and a little tent with chests and note blocks, and a potion merchant with a ghost pirate skin.

With the hole, you won't need to go through rocks while swimming, and won't need to swim up an annoying waterfall.

Maybe if you try to walk over it normally, it says "You shouldn't swim this on your own, it might be best to use those cannons." And tps you to the cannon.

and also i decided to download the dungeons to singleplayer so I can try doing this idea

 

Using a cannon to catapult yourself? Maybe you could just use the cannon to blow a hole in the rubble blocking the entrance? Seems more plausible. Maybe the case of cannonballs is opened with the key.
Last time I checked, swimming was definitely a lot safer than firing oneself out of a cannon anyway, it doesn't really make sense.


For Underworld Crypt, perhaps General Graken could be the key collector, and he says that they tried going through but it's locked, and if you could give him the key he could send it ahead? If you don't he might say 'Don't bother, recruit, we haven't been able to unlock the crypt.'

Even in Galleon's Graveyard (the "filler" water dungeon), the boss is mentioned in one of the seaskipper dialogues.

If one looks deep enough in the lore, you can start to make connections pretty fast.

Also, if something is ingame - it is canon. It's like saying that one alien in star wars isn't canon. Hell most of the books are canon.

 

they are more canon like toa is canon, it doesn't realy have any connection to anything (actually the dungeons are more canon than toa)

ooo got an idea, how about a crashed pirate ship infront of the door (other side of room) and you have to use the key to open a trapdoor to the basement to access the cannons to open the door

Also for most of these i was just thinking a door with instead of a key collector. it's just a big door with a lock in the middle and you give it the key
