    It's already in the game, actually. Ever held a spear while an archer and wondered why you didn't get anything from it? Same goes with gear, just make it ignore the stats instead of unequipping it

    Except the currenct mechanic makes it so you cant use it at all, the same thing happens when you try to right click on an armor piece of a higher level, it tells you no, then unequips it.
    It'd need a decent amount of changing still.

    Ya the brunt of the code is done, still needs a bit more.
    Not saying it doesn't need to be added, it definitely does.
    But it's still gonna take a bit of work.
