I was going through the forums when I came up with an idea that would (in my opinion) be cool to implement into Wynncraft. Here it is :

At the top center of the screen there could be a bar, with the right side colored white and the left side colored black. A number above it shows a negative or positive karma number. When you create a new character or join Wynncraft, an icon (maybe your character head) starts at the center (0) and the farther right you go on the bar the higher the number gets. The farther left you go on the bar, though, results in the number decreasing into the negatives. The number maximum is 100 for the right side and -100 for the left side. To increase karma, the player would kill bosses at altars and bosses during quests and dungeons. Quests that help people would also increase it, the highest amount being increased at one being 10. To lower karma, the player would kill civilians and guards in towns and cities, kill passive mobs (sheep, cows, etc) or spending time around The House of Twain or other ghosty places like that (-1 karma a minute, maybe). If your karma drops below -50, guards at cities will attack the player and the level for quests would be raised. If your karma raises above 50, mobs will do more damage to the player. For some weapons and armor, a certain amount of karma will be needed to use it along with level and skill points. Weapons and armor that have really good life steal or poison will be available to people that have a certain negative karma number, but weapons and armor that have really good health regen, xp bonus, and loot bonus would be available only to people with a certain positive karma number. Upon the player reaching -100 karma, a weapon called "Black Staff" will be given to you if your class is mage, "Black Sword" if you are assassin, "Black Bow" if you are archer, and "Dark Spear" if you are warrior. They will all be legendary. I'll post the stats after this. Upon reaching 100 karma, the player will be granted "White Staff" for mage, "White Sword" for assassin, "White Bow" for archer, and "White Spear" for warrior. They will all be legendary. I'll post the stats after this.
    Please consider this idea.

The Wall of Text is real.

I'm not gonna lie, the premise of a Karma system in Wynn is actually pretty interesting. This suggestion has the roots of what could make it good, but it's missing a lot of stuff that would elevate it to a great suggestion.
    other than thread design ;)
Mainly; the way you get negative karma isn't great. Killing passive mobs is a necessary task to complete a lot of quests; even the tutorial has you doing it. As for spending time around "ghosty" places; no. Places like the Twain Mansion that require lots of quest time creating negative karma isn't good. Or at least, not at -1 karma per minute; less than that could be okay, though more in Corrupted areas rather than "ghosty" ones.

Another issue; downsides and upsides to negative karma. Having guards attack you in cities is a big no, and so is raising quest levels. Instead, have guards refuse to aid you, and certain quests be completely unavailable. To counteract this; have new quests be available, shadier and darker tasks, as well as mobs having a smaller aggro radius.

To add upon the previous point; upsides and downsides to positive karma. Upsides should be having no quests removed, as well as small increase in money rewards from quests. Guards are also more likely to aid you, having a larger aggro radius for mobs. Downsides are that mobs have an increased aggro radius.

Back to earning karma; taking the greedier/worse choice in quests that have decisions should result in a large negative boost in karma, and vice versa. Each "dark" quest you take on with negative karma earns you more negative karma, and each "heroic" quest (as in the tougher quests that already exist and include fighting corruption-style mobs and such) will earn you some positive karma. Killing bosses is fine as well.

The other rewards are fine, so long as they are balanced between the two sides.

In the end, a messy suggestion, but one that acts as a good basis for what could be an incredible one. Needs some work.

Needs revamping, but most certainly would add a "you pick good or bad side" element to the game. +1, but like they said, need reformatting.

    Possible ways to lose karma
    • Killing passive mobs
    • Killing wybels
    • Killing neutral mobs
    • Certain "bad" quests
    • Staying in "evil" areas
    Possible ways to gain karma
    • Completing quests
    • Killing "evil" mobs
    • staying in towns, areas of light

Rather than a bar at the top of your screen, which is impossible, perhaps a scoreboard or a command. (/Karma brings up your karma info.).
I've already suggested something a bit like this.
Instead of calling it negative and positive karma, call it corrupted and pure.
    Besides that great idea.

The bar won't work, period. (Maybe if they use boss bar and have it colored white, and count the missing black portion, but boss bars are unreliable).

However the system itself should be entirely possible, I've seen it done, but the coding behind it would be extremely complicated.
To the point of reworking every mob.
    Yay.

Storing the value would be easy because for an example your class choices and skill points are saved. The agrros would use lots and lots of if statements which basically go like this:
If ....... is true (eg player_karma < 0)do .....(eg don't attack player unless they get closer) You can also have multiple conditions for an example: if player is in max aggro range and their karma is > 75. This would only work if you could set different aggro ranges for mobs though....

I'm wearing an armour piece with a karma req on it. It drops, leaving me armourless, losing armour and a mass of GIVE ME MY +666 WS FATAL BACK SALTED YOU SCRUB

    This is just inconvenient.

If you were wearing a piece of armor that required a certain amount of karma, you can control how much karma you gain/lose through the ways you gain/lose karma so it'd be your fault if the armor fell off.

    tells it all

Also maybe, when you have a certain amount of karma you could say "hey ... want to duel you, the winner will get ... karma and the loser will lose the same amount of karma"

You would have to have already a certain amount of karma to avoid people just telling their friends to come online for 5 secs just do get free karma...
