Game Design Improve The Soul Point System

    So, I was trying to complete Level 9 of Floor 6 of the Tower of Ascension. Since I am Level 83, I died multiple times while attempting to do so. I was at nine soul points, and then I died again, knocking me down to seven soul points. But then, I dropped 3 LE. 3 LE! Considering I have about 22 LE in total, this was devastating. I lost 3 LE just for dying while at 9 soul points!

    I much preferred the old system(If you go down to 0 Soul Points, you drop all your stuff) to this! In my anger, I rushed back to the Tower of Ascension from nearby Lusuco, hoping to pick off my liquified emeralds off the ground. They weren't there, and I was killed again, bringing my down to five soul points. And I lost another 3 LE! I lost 6 LE, just because I was killed enough to lower my Soul Points to five. I could found a Guild for less liquified emeralds than that! I suggest a few ways to fix this:
    1. Reduce the harshness of the current soul point system. Make a calculator which calculates the emeralds in your bank and inventory, then combines this with your level to drop less emeralds when you die.
    2. Revert back to the old soul point system, in which you lose all of your items at 0 Soul Points and nothing else before that. I realize that this would cause the occasional low-level to quit the server out of frustration, but warnings could be put in place to reduce the likeliness of this happening.
    3. Create a new soul point system in which you cannot leave towns at 3 Soul Points or below, but with no other punishment. I realize there wouldn't be much incentive to stay alive with this system.
    4. Remove the Soul Point system. I think this would not be a very good idea, but it could be explored.
    I don't want to start dropping LEs until I get below 5 soul points.

    P.S. Most of this thread is more of a rant than a suggestion, but please listen to it anyway.

    how about you pay close attention to your soul points instead of rushing into death

    1. A possibility, though reverting is not a good idea. It was changed for a reason.

    2. This is not good design. The player should not be physically limited by the game, just by their own knowledge of danger.

    3. Yeah, no.

    As for losing 3 LE, it's sort of your own fault for carrying money around. Especially if you're carrying what happens to be a decent portion of all your money with you.

    Don't die. Deal with it, if you're this incompetent at the game that you don't understand that dying is meant to be a punishment, you should re evaluate your choice to play this game.

    They will neither change the soul point system nor remove it. Also Im completely fine with that system I lost like nothing. I never carry Liquids with me. I take them to my bank so the highest amount of emeralds I have in my inventory while grinding or adventuring is a few eb, mostly just stacks of normal emeralds. So I guess you should just put everything you dont need to your bank and only carry necessary stuff with you.

    I assumed that, since I was at 9 soul points, it would be safe to play on the server without getting killed.

    That's a good point, and I think I'll do that. However, I still think they should improve the Soul Point System.

    hover over your soul points in your inventory to see how much you'll lose when you die
    it's not really safe to carry LE with you
    just take it to a bank as soon as possible

    I assumed that if you died at 9 soul points, you wouldn't lose anything significant, as beginners start at 10 soul points. I do understand that dying is meant to be a punishment, I just don't think it should be so harsh at 9 soul points(And maybe not 7). And no, I am not going to quit Wynncraft or 're-evaluate my choice to play this game' just because I lose 6 LE.

    The punishment for dying is less harsh on lower levels compared to higher levels so that new players have time to get adjusted to the system.

    Why would you risk bringing anything but your weapon, armor, and some potions into the ToA on any amount of soul points? Death is imminent, and there's a bank right outside of the tower inside of Lusuco. It's not that inconvenient.

    I am very sorry about your loss but we have no plans on changing the soul point system.
    Like previous people have said it would be a good idea if you didn't carry around a lot of LE or emeralds with you while exploring or doing quests that are dangerous.
    I will be closing this thread.
