The Freezing Heights Issue

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by Undyne, Oct 19, 2016.

?

Do you think Freezing Heights needs to be "cleared out" with more grinding areas?

  1. Yes. Freezing Heights shouldn't be the only source of xp for lv85+.

  2. No. I think Freezing Heights is fine the way it is, and there shouldn't be new grinding areas.

  3. I really have no opinion; I could go either way with this issue.

    Hello,

Now, I have no idea how many of the people on this forum have a class that has reached lv90, but if you do you should know about the notorious area known as "Freezing Heights". This area is basically an area that spawns a large quantity of mobs (such as the trainer room in the ToL or the Herb Cave). As a result, the area is classified as a major end game farming/grinding area.

However, unlike Herb Cave or ToL, there always seems to be a "competition" for this area. At this point players are now "fighting" over who gets the mobs/kills for their grinding. I just turned lv90 recently and I have already encountered several issues upon grinding there:

-Every server, including those with <20 players, has at least one person grinding in Freezing Heights
-I have encountered a person who told me to leave because they were about to level up
-I have entered Freezing Heights and found multitudes of drops on the ground, as well as a player who basically kills every mob quickly and doesn't share loot/xp
-I have seen multiple players who afk on a rock and lure almost all the mobs to a stationary spot, resulting in less mobs for other players to grind

Now, there are exceptions: certain players will make parties with other grinders and will equally share kills, knowing that they will get kills from them and the partied players. However, this is rare, and most of the time players keep the kills to themselves.

This issue has gotten so bad that now players from lv85 all the way to lv100 farm here. Because these levels are hard to grind, it takes a very long time for these players to finish leveling and truly leave the area for good (of course, then you have mythic farming that might bring them back). Freezing Heights, while a good place to grind, is nearly impossible to grind completely because of the absurd amount of players residing here in the end game.

If you feel that this is an issue as well, feel free to comment below with your opinion. There needs to be more "grinding worthy" areas for certain level sections to alleviate the crowds. And no, the Dragonling area isn't efficient simply because the Dragonlings are harder to kill, earning less xp over time. (And, you have to deal with the void.)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To sum it up: Freezing Heights is overcrowded with end game players and has become a struggle to efficiently grind there.

Yup, freezing heights arguments are bad....
But I can sort of solve the 85-90 issue
Just use the fire Spring near the molten heights enterance

The real issue I think is the 95-100 grinding, it's not efficient for it but it's the only option

But freezing heights is an area that should be used for 90-95
Though it can accomadate up to 4 people if you know how to use the area right

I don't think lv85-90 has any issues leveling up, considering COTL has tons of mobs and they still have an adequate number of quests. (Plus, they have the Molten Men caves.)

I personally think that there should be an area like Freezing Heights in Sky Islands specifically for lv95-100. That way, lv90-95 can stay in Freezing Heights and the higher levels will migrate to this new spot.

And I know that Freezing Heights can be efficient with 4 people, but unfortunately most players don't care about other grinders and end up being selfish with the xp. That's the main issue with the area.

Tbh there's a bunch of spots in that location to grind at. There's the cave, the outside of the cave, the top, even outside of freezing heights there's more freezing mobs that have a pretty good spawn rate.

Tbh, I like freezing heights as it is. Just join a party with the people and get a bit more xp. Or, if you prefer to be alone, just switch servers. There's really no harm in that. ^-^

Is it really that hard just to add a few more grinding spots for high levels? I'm not asking for more quests, I just wish there was a bit of variation and we don't have to worry about other people arriving.

Even though I'm only level 42-43, I can see what you are getting at. It can be pretty difficult to find that server where there is almost no players at all (decreasing the chances that someone may be grinding there), especially at certain times of the day.
It's to bad that some of the players try and get all the kills for themselves, even though there are a few other people who want to grind there. I've touched upon this issue once in the Abandoned Mines, near Rymak, but not as severely as what you are saying about the Freezing Heights.

It really isn't our choice whether there should be more equally efficient grinding areas. If you are an admin, do you want to make leveling up at high levels extremely easy and lose a portion of the players after they have "beat the game"?

That's really the issue isn't it? =P. There's a balance between too many grinding spots, and too few. Getting it wrong can frustrate people either way, at least that's what I think.

I'm not saying to make grinding easier. If we were to add a new lv95 grinding spot, it would still take ages to level up. The mobs at this location would only give slightly more than Freezing Heights mobs, but enough to create a deviation between the lv90s and the lv95s.

In this method, you have less conflict with grinding territory, but it still keeps the challenge given with the current grinding system.

Also, @omgsara, I will say you were the only individual who partied with me in Freezing Heights. Like mentioned above, Freezing Heights can be efficient if people (like you) cooperated with others and created parties to share kills/xp. However, most people are not like that and some even respond rudely to you if asked to cooperate.

And finally, about the areas in Freezing Heights: While all of them have mobs within them, there are discrepancies with each. Some areas have a ton of archer mobs, which messes up any grinding for melee classes (this also makes afk camping useless). The upper floor in the main area is alright, but there is a significant drop in mobs and it is also very precarious. And the drake cave... stay away from that unless you want to be pelted with ice cubes and arrows.

I'd never had trouble with this "competition".
Mainly b/c there's always a player or me saying "party?" as easy as that...and they'll join too. Not saying it this is not true, but very easy to join instead of fight.

There are two grinding spots that you can use from 95-100(I personally used it from 94-100 on my mage) in the sky islands.

Yeah, usually if someone gets angry at me im like: "oh..okay then." Then I'll just leave but eh I do find it more efficient when there's a party. Meh, I guess others have different opinions and views on how they see grinding :/

I find that funny, because most of the time I enter Freezing Heights and either 1) someone is afk camping, 2) is hogging kills with no intention to party, or 3) someone has "claimed" the area as their own and tells me to leave.

Also, while there are areas in the Sky Islands that are decent in giving xp, the mobs (Dragonlings) are much harder to kill, deal way more damage, and create a risk of falling into the void. Freezing Heights doesn't have any of those issues.

People should be more willing to create parties. Then this issue wouldn't exist.
