About Editting The Wiki

As far as I understand, only people who are in a certain list are allowed to edit the wiki
I feel like this completely defeats the purpose of this type of site, in almost any other wiki you visit (even wikipedia itself) anybody can go and edit whatever they want
I think that if someone genuinely and voluntarily wants to help build the wiki, they shouldn't be required to ask for permission to do so. Even if joining the list is as easy as some people have told me, I still think it doesn't do anything other than discouraging people from helping
Instead of only having a select group of players editting the wiki, wouldn't it be better to let everybody participate and have this group of dedicated people making sure those changes are correct?

The video-gaming community is notorious for going wild when they have free access to websites. It worked before, but back then the community was tiny, and hardly anyone even knew about the wiki.

Not only that, but the main reason we had to make it request-only is because the wiki was filled with 50,000+ Spambots (IIRC), and boy were they a pain in the ass to delete.

 

But... you just have to ask if you can join one Iforgotmodname's profile... and I think it's to stop people from just like deleting whole things.

 

I still think it's dumb how you have to ask someone and wait for a response before you can help voluntarily....
There's a place where you can check all changes that people have done lately, it's not that hard to check it from time to time and revert any innapropiate edit
I'm not going through any more trouble than just creating a wiki account, especially when I'm using time and effort to help expecting nothing back. Anyways, I don't lose anything myself if the system doesn't change... It's just the server losing many potential contributors

In almost any case you have to ask for permission to work, free or not.

If you really wanted to help like you say you do, you wouldn't care.

Uhhhh I don't understand, you don't want to help any more because you have to go on to someone's profile and type "please give me access to the wiki I would like to help out"?

 

Dunno if you ever volunteered irl before but unless the task is really simple or straight forward you need to get permission to do it.

 

And go back to the over 9000 spambots invasion?
