Concept: Using Offhand For Better Spells

    So for a long time we have had the problem of the spells stopping at level 68 (I think). There are many suggestions of adding a new upgrade thing to them, but that seems to be a bit over-worked and it does not seem like its gonna happen.

    By far the most realistic suggestions was the middle click feature, but the devs dropped some coding info on us and explained that the game cant tell if button 3 is pressed.

    However, more recently we got a new way that the game CAN test a thing! The F button!

    Before you say "oh, but we just got power abilities", yeah, but thats more of a weapon/armor upgrade than a new spell.

    Anyway, some servers test if a player dropped an items, gives it right back within 1 tick, and then performs an ability (im looking at you, mineplex champions). But since we actually need to be able to drop weapons, the F key could work, since the offhand is not used in Wynn.

    Let me give 2 examples.

    Now in some games, as well as your normal skills, you also have a utility. For example a gun class may have a reload utility, a ghost class may have a toggle form utility, a shield class may have a raise shield utility.

    In Wynn, each class could have its own utility. Utilities would change the way each class works. They would be available at level 1, then the ability that is usually unlocked at level 1 is unlocked when the next ability is usually unlocked, ect.

    Before I go into examples, I want to explain how this would work and why it would fit into the game. How is simple, you hit F and the game registers you are holding your weapon (or any item, I guess) in your offhand. The game then switched the item back to your main hand immediately (never actually removing the item, so people dont complain about lost items), and performs the utility.

    The reason this would fit, is cuz its actually inspires by the dungeons. In on of the things, Salted explained that each boss has a "boon" or "gimmic" to their fight, like making walls or sending armies (tbh that was amazing). This kind of gives each class a boon too!

    Assassin-

    The assassin is the only one that also requires a spell change. It basically has a toggle. you hit F, you go invisible. You hit F again, you come out. Invisibility drains mana (not as fast as the current vanish does), and you come out of it when you hit something. Why replace vanish? So the assassin can get a proper movement ability in its place (I imagine a smoke bomb or front flip). It fits with the assassin because, well, its an assassin. It is supposed to sneak around undetected.

    Archer-

    The archer would now have a limited number of arrows in its quiver (quiver would be a stat archers have located above their mana). Say 45? The number can increase as you upgrade one of your stats. Anyway, spells don't use up arrows from your quiver. But what happens when you run out? You hit F, it takes like 2.5 seconds, and your quiver reloads. It makes the archer less spammy since it requires you to time your arrows before being able to reload (perhaps reloading costs 0.5-1 mana?)

    Warrior-

    The warrior is typically a melee tank, but also has some ranged abilities. But what exactly is the weapon? A spear. Idk if you know this, but in real life, you can throw a spear. I imagine you hit F, you cant move for 1 second, then (you dont actually loose an item), your throw the spear. Its just an item entity that matches the look of your spear. It does small AoE damage around the point of impact for 75% of your normal damage, including elemental.

    Mage-

    To be honest, I had NO CLUE what do do for this one. So I think I came up with an example utility that works? It would totally rework the mage, as well as making it so the mage can't spam heal. Every spell, EVERY SPELL, only uses 0.5 mana. Super OP right? Of corse, this thread was just a plan to buff mage that I pretended was a new feature! WRONG (-quote taking from donald trump during the debate). The mage does not actually regen mana naturally. Mana steal will bring mana back up, but the mage has to do something else. They hit F and they go into a "channel" state where they have partilces around them. They cant attack or move, and only take like 20% of the damage inflicted to them. During that time their mana regens at 3x the normal rate. Mana regen stat effects this.

    Anyway, those are just random spit ball examples I pulled from my head. But you get the point. You hit F and its a utility that is FUNDEMENTAL to the class.

    This is taking more from the true "spell upgrade" sort of thing. Hitting F before your spell switches it to your offhand, the game registered that happens, prints an A above your coords/charge, then sends the weapon back to your main hand, all within like 1 tick.

    Once you have that A, your spells will be augmented to have a slightly different effect, almost reverse in some cases. You can only augment your spells once you hit the level that WOULD earn you a new spell upgrade, but there is none. (what would the next one be? 75?). Or you could unlock the augmentations one spell at a time. You would hit F again to un-augment the spells.

    Once again, these are just concept augmentations, so you get my point.

    Archer:

    -Arrow Storm: You shoot a single arrow that goes like 600% damage (whatever the damage of arrow storm is, all combined into one arrow).

    -Back Flip: You jump forwards instead of back. And instead of getting speed, all mobs nearby get slowness.

    -Bomb Arrow: Instead of the arrow exploding, upon impact it shoots 20 arrows up into the air that then come raining down.

    -Arrow Shield: You shoot an arrow at an enemy. Upon hit of entity or floor, it makes a circle of arrows (simular to the one that surrounds you during the normal spell) that damages any mob that tries to move in or out of the circle (like a trap).

    --

    Warrior:

    -Bash: instead of a cone in front of you, you bash the ground under your feet, causing all enemies in a circle around you to take damage and get knocked back.

    -Charge: The warrior jumps straight up, instead of forward.

    -Uppercut: Instead of bashing the enemy into the ground, the warrior sends them even higher. If they hit a ceiling they take the usual damage. Otherwise they take fall damage upon landing.

    -War Scream: Instead of buffing allies with strength and resistance, you debuff your enemies with weakness and negative resistance (yes, thats a real thing in the game's code. It makes the afflicted entity take more damage).

    Assassin:

    -Spin Attack: The spin is so intense your arms act like helicopter blades, shooting you up 10 blocks. You damage any mobs in that 10 block column as you would any mob usually caught in the spin attack.

    -Multi-Hit: Instead of many hits, its one super powerful hit. Basically what we did with bomb arrow. Extra damage if the enemy is looking away from you.

    -Smoke Bomb: The mobs inside the area get the blindness effect (yes, it effects the mob's pathfinding), but does much less damage. Extra damage to slimes and magma cubes (cuz of the powder in the bomb. Witchery quicklime anyone?).

    -Vanish: Instead of becoming impossible to see, you see others. All mobs in a large radius get the glowing effect for 30 seconds.

    --

    Mage:

    -Heal: Instead of using mana to gain health, you hurt yourself to gain mana.

    -Teleport: Instead of targeting a block, it targets a mob. The mage then switched places with the mob, hurting it in the process (twilight forest ender bow anyone?)

    -Meteor: The meter comes from underground, pushing up. It lifts all nearby mobs up with it (high level levitation) and then explodes. The mobs take the normal damage plus the fall damage.

    -Ice snake: Instead of having the snake in front of you, you have it under your feet pushing you forward (you ride the snake).

    Once again, just examples, so you get my point.

    So I think you get the idea. Using the F key as some sort of spell-related function, as we suggested the middle click feature but had that problem.

    As you can tell, this is just a concept. The specific utilities and augmentations are just proof of concept. The concept itself is the use of the offhand for Augmentation or Utility or something.

    Sure it would be cool to have these effects, but many of them are just incredibly niche changes, you don't even have a fully formed idea.

    I'm not going to be leaving a complete critique of this thread until all ideas are finished, or something is truly deserving of it.

    1.9 Would be amazing for wynn. Pretty much unlimited textures and significantly less commandblock lag.

    Not sure if you noticed but in 1.8 there are like 100 less glitches and it *probably* costs alot to upgrade a large server from 1.8 > 1.9 > 1.10

    I am bad at coming up with ideas. If you look at my other suggestions, they are usually concepts. A concept of a mechanic, with an example.

    Here the mechanics are either augmentation or utility. The specific examples were just proof of concept.

    True, but having everything 1.9 makes it easier to do textures and new features (and I dont think it really cost that much)

    Like you throw a smoke bomb at your feet, disappear in a cloud of smoke, then reappear in another cloud of smoke in a different spot (teleport)

    thats actually a pretty good idea. I will change it if I can think of a way to incorporate that. Particles effects? Note block sounds?

    Agmented arrowstorm would completely destroy all balence of wynncraft. Imagine meteor.., but 50% more damage... And for archer...

    Explain? I could not really think of anything past assassin and warrior, so I came up with the other 2 on the spot. I needed to explain the concept somehow.

    I understand how the mage one could cause problems. I use mage myself, and im not completely sold on the idea. AND I MADE THE DARN THING.

    But whats wrong with the buffing of asssassin?

    Well, unlike meteor thats a huge AoE, its a single arrow. Easy to miss on a moving target.

    Except a teleport. So you could smoke bomb up cliffs and stuff.

    It's actually a pretty small nerf IMO. Even with a super fast attack speed weapon, you could still fire for 7.5 straight seconds, and only have to reload for 2.5 seconds. not to mention spells aren't affected

    With curse+Courage+Air prison with this, I bet u could kill even Qira in s couple of hits. Rapid fire is balenced cause even at close range they don't all hit

    I will look into nerfing it, as well as the warrior taunt.

    Also, I have to say I sometimes steal concepts from other sources, the assassin thing is from mineplex champions. Its an ability called backstab where you do extra damage from behind (cuz your an assassin). You need to kill like 20 people with it without taking damage for the stupid assassin achievement.

    Also I figured it would go well with vanish.
