(quest) Ascending The Skies - Lv. 88, Medium

Hey! This is my first ever Quest suggestion (except if I did one like 3 years ago or something and forgot) so feedback is appreciated :)
(This took 8-10 hours FYI, but maybe I'm just slow lol)

Name: Ascending the Skies
Lv. Min: 88 (Possibly 89, tell me which is better)
Difficulty: Medium

Start NPC Location: 980, 192, -5465


Stages:

1. Talk to Quire on the large tower in Eltom, at [980, 192, -5465]
2. Find Quire’s brother, Nocan.
3. Return to Quire with the Gunpowder.
4. Enter the Cannon
5. Look around the Cloudlands for the large winged beast.
6. Look for and take the stolen crate.
7. Escape from the Cloudlands.
8. Return the supplies to Quire.

Quest:
(If you see something that looks like this sentence, then it means that it's a note and will not be seen in the quest.)
(Quire, pronounced “Kweyer”, is a villager located on top of the large tower in Eltom, standing next to big cannon with “Property of the Pound Brothers” written on it)

Quire before quest:
[1/1] Quire: Ah, hello to you, short-nosed creature of some kind! I need some help, but I don’t think you’re any good to me yet. Come back at level 88.

Quire when you can start the quest:
[1/4] Quire: Ah, hello to you, short-nosed creature of some kind, I am Quire Pound, of the Pound Brothers!
[2/4] Quire: Have you not heard of us? We are known all around the neighbourhood! Well, a person who can do the impossible must be of some use to me...
[3/4] Quire: Hah! I know, you could go look for my brother, Nocan! He’s gone off to get some gunpowder for this cannon next to me. I need him here as soon as possible, we can’t be the Pound Brothers if there’s only one of us.
[4/4] Quire: Maybe he’s in our house, that’s where he stores the gunpowder. It’s opposite the Item Buyer next to the marketplace. What could be taking him so long though?
[New Quest Started: Ascending the Skies]
Quest Book: Find Quire's Brother, Nocan.

Quire when you didn’t find Nocan yet:
[1/1] Quire: He might be in our house, opposite the Item Buyer next to the marketplace. I’m not sure what’s taking him so long…

It will have "Pound Brothers" over the door)

Note next to the lower bed in the Pound Brothers’ house:
[1/1] Note: We’re out of Gunpowder, I’ve gone to the gunpowder cave at [825, 44, -5350] for more. -Nocan
(This is the molten man cave, at the very end there will be an extended bit with no mobs inside and crates with gunpowder in item frames on them.)

Nocan in the gunpowder cave:
[1/3] Nocan: Oi there lad, who are you?
[2/3] Nocan: Oh, me brother sent you? He must be worried sick about me! I ran out of gunpowder so I had to come here for more, but I hurt me leg and I don’t think I can make it back any time soon.
[3/3] Nocan: Here lad, take this gunpowder and give it to him. I’ll wait here until I heal up.
[Quest Book Updated]
Quest Book: Return to Quire with the Gunpowder.

Nocan after you’re done talking to him:
[1/1] Nocan: Go do your thing, I’ll be fine here by meself.

Nocan after finishing the quest:
[1/1] Nocan: Hey, you got our supplies back, thanks a million for that! Me leg’s still hurting a bit but I’ll be grand.

Quire when you have the gunpowder:
[1/13] Quire: Ah, I see you’ve got the gunpowder! Where was Nocan?
[2/13] Quire: Oh, he hurt his leg? Well, not to worry! I’m sure he’ll get better soon enough.
[3/13] Quire: Anyway, thanks for the delivery. Now, you can enter the cannon!
[4/13] Quire: What? Why, you ask? Oh, I have completely forgot to tell you about this… ha ha ha…
[5/13] Quire: Well, there’s a reason for this cannon! A mighty old bird swooped down one day and stole all our supplies!
[6/13] Quire: We had them outside, as our house is too small to store our supplies, but such is life.
[7/13] Quire: We really need them back though, all our earnings, food, and clothes were taken by that pesky winged beast! Yes, what a pity indeed!
[8/13] Quire: Alas, we are left without an emerald to our name…
[9/13] Quire: But!! There is a way to get our supplies back! I, of course, have come up with a cunning plan. A plan so cunning that you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!
[10/13] Quire: This cannon here is the centrepiece of this wonderful plan. We will use it to launch someone to the cloudlands of above and take back our supplies!
[11/13] Quire: And that someone… Is you! Yes, an adventurer like you has everything needed for this operation; The power of twenty ogres, intellect rivaled only by the likes of mine, and most importantly bones which grow back before you can say “Aah, my ribs!”
[12/13] Quire: Is it safe? Hahaha, don’t be silly! Anyhow, you’re about to find out!
[13/13] Quire: Now, enter the cannon and hope for the best. Good luck to you!

Upon entering the cannon:
(You are teleported to black room. You're blinded and can’t move)
[1/4] Quire: Ready?
[2/4] Quire: 3…
[3/4] Quire: 2…
[4/4] Quire: It was nice knowing you!

(Blindness goes away, you are in the cloudlands. This is a land full of big fluffy clouds with small clouds in between which you need to jump on to go from one big cloud to another. The clouds are made of snow, ice, and possibly wool/quartz(?). There are a few hostile mobs here, explained later in the thread. To exit, jump into a coal block hole (TP zone) and you will be TP’d to the top of the tower, on a stack of hay bales which cushion your fall)

Quire if you speak to him after he’s launched you (by going back/dying):
[1/1] Quire: Hey! Aren’t you supposed to be in the clouds or something? No matter! Hop in the cannon, I’ll launch you again.

(There is a large nest made of hay bales and wood with a huge grey bird inside (made of blocks, not a mob), it is about 120 blocks away. The bird is much bigger than the player)

Upon entering the nest:
This seems to be the bird Quire was talking about, it looks like it’s asleep. Try looking around for the supplies.

(You must enter a room which is a stack of hay bales and sticks (wood), with a one-way entrance. It houses a passive mob (chest) called “Pound Brothers’ Supplies” which drops an untradable item of the same name. There is a TP zone (black blocks) which you must go through when you have collected the supplies.)

Upon exiting through the TP zone:

(enderdragon roar sound plays, you are teleported to a copy of the cloudlands right outside the nest. The clouds are exploding one by one and you must get out of the cloudlands without falling. If you fall, you get TP’d back to the room with the supplies and the sequence will restart when you exit the room again. You get the following message upon falling:
“You blacked out, and you’ve woken up here. What happened?”)

The bird must have woken up. The clouds are unstable, you have to escape!

Upon entering TP zone at the beginning of the cloudlands, to get back down:
You successfully escape and jump back down to Eltom.
(You get TP’d to the top of the tower, on a stack of hay bales which cushion your fall, as mentioned before)

[1/5] Quire: Oh, you have returned! With the supplies, I see- And also with most of your bones intact!
[2/5] Quire: Did you give that foul winged beast a right beating so?
[3/5] Quire: What?? You just stole it and ran? Well, I guess that this more… “pacifistic” approach also works. Anyhoo, I got my supplies back so I guess I should reward you for helping me out.
[4/5] Quire: Here, take these emeralds. We have plenty of them so I suppose you can have some. And take this thing too, I don’t need it and I have no idea where it is from.
[5/5] Quire: Now, good luck on your adventures!

Note: Although this quest may seem more fitting for the Sky Islands rather than Eltom, I couldn't find a good place for it to start there and I also don't have much experience with the Sky Islands. Another reason for it not taking place there is that there will surely be many quests for level 90-100 in the next few updates, and levels 88 and 89 may be left out, seeing as there already are quite a few quests for levels 80-87 and that getting XP will be easier with the next update.

 

I like the direction that this quest is going, and like basically everything about it, except for the fact that it is kinda a fetch quest. You go get the gunpowder, and then go and fetch the supplies back from the bird.

I like the quest though nerd :)

I love the quest so much! (Partly because Eltom is super coolio)

3 things I'm going to suggest though:
1- Add a small village with some people in the cloudlands. You talk to one of them, do some work for him, and then he tells you how to get to the nest. Makes the quest longer and cooler.

2- Make it so that when you're running away from the bird, blocks and clouds fall behind you so you have to go fast

3- Maybe change Quire's name slightly? People might misinterpret it as "Queer" and, idk, be offended or something

 

1. Thanks for the suggestion! I thought about this, but I'm not sure if it wouldn't make the quest artificially longer without making it more fun. I'll try to think of something to make this work.

2. That's what is already happening, if I understand you correctly.

3. I also thought of this, but couldn't come up with anything better. Quier was also a possibility (same pronunciation but possibly harder to mistake) but I liked Quire better. I could also change the name completely but I can't find anything which would accompany the character. I based Quire off of Squire, fyi. I'll try to think of something else myself, but if you have any ideas then please tell me :)

I tried to make it as non-fetchy as possible, by making the part where you have to find Nocan less linear and slightly challenging due to the mobs, and also by having that escape sequence at the end. I might change the story up though, for example by making it a search for treasure or something. Thanks for the feedback!

Great first quest suggestion! You coloured the dialogues, came up with pre-quest dialogue and made mob-stats, which most people dont add in their first quest suggestion. I quite like the quest, altough it's kinda a fetch quest. Atleast it gives you a reason to go to Eltom except from loot chests / powder relics :D
