I like the idea, but the text should appear at the same time. Also, how many voice actors would this require, even with people doing multiple characters?

 

Cool but people might have hearing disablities, and won't be able to read the instructions again if they don't understand/forgot there task, and some people have their mc volume off.

 

Or have an option to toggle speech in the compass menu

I was saying to put it with the compass. I don't think it's needed as a command since it shouldnt be toggled that much

 

You'd have to add a whole new thing to the compass instead of just another subcommand to a system that is already in place.

I think this would be a great idea.
Some people in the world find it hard to read and/or can't keep up with the dialogue and with just text villagers it makes this hard, so this will would assist these people.

Only down side is 1.9

But hey you have my support +1

 

I am pretty sure this would require at least 50 hours of work in total, which is insane for only an aesthetic. I am sorry, but this does not feel realistic to take on, in our current state.

Oh god... I would really like this. But how many voice actors would you need for the 100+ NPCs? I can only imagine cringy kids voicing the NPCs.

Don't worry, we can use my smooth voice. I've had practice voice acting in my lets play and I say It's 10/10.
