As I understand it, a mission is those little purple messages that say, "kill this mob or open loot chests for this reward!" These are little grindy activities that give a small reward, but they could be better.
First of all, I have 2 ideas on better ways to start them.
    Idea 1: Random Quest NPCs
Instead of the quest randomly popping up in chat, a purple Mission NPC spawns and wanders around for a bit. If a player talks to it, it will open up some diologue and the player will get the quest.
    Idea 2: Public Events
For this idea, chat in text will say, "meet at [location] at [coordinates] for a miniquest! You have X time to show up (Let's say 3 minutes!) If players show up at the spot, the mission will be a group project. It gets harder the more people show up.
Next, I have better ideas on the public event format.
Currently, there are around 3 kinds of public events-kill mobs, duel players, and open chests.
I have some more ideas for these events, such as...
-Open Relic: A special relic spawns just for this quest that despawns after the miniquest timer runs out or [the] quester(s) get the relic. Defended with mobs equal to the quester's (group's average) level; only breakable by the questing player(s). Reward is the item inside the relic.
-Defeat Boss: A strong boss spawns somewhere around the area, surrounded by weaker mobs. Players must eliminate the boss within a time limit without dying. Quest is successful if the boss is killed; it is failed if the timer runs out or the questers die.
-Horde: Enemy spawn rate greatly increases, and more enemies start spawning. Participators must survive until the timer runs out. The quest is failed if they die.
-Save Travelers: A group of mobs called Travelers spawns in the area. Strong mobs start attacking them. If at least 1 traveler is alive by the time the timer runs out, the mission is successful.
-Kill Target: A fast mob is running away with an item you need, surrounded by an escort of strong mobs. Kill it and get the item before time runs out!
-Find NPCs: An NPC spawns. Talk to it, and another one will spawn somewhere else. You must find and talk to all the NPCs before time runs out. The NPCs may be placed in hard-to-reach, hard-to-find, or dangerous areas. The NPCs may also require an item to talk to them, and may ask you to complete a small quest, like kill a mob, before the next one spawns. They will give either hints or cords to the next one's location. This mission has a long time limit . This could also be an opportunity to add area lore through mission dialogue, or easter eggs...
-Craft Object: You must make an object, like a potion or piece of armor, by finding Materials. These Materials drop off of mobs that spawn with a purple nametag just for this event and can only be killed by a/the participating player. You must find and kill these mobs before the timer runs out. Your reward is the crafted item.
-Powerful Drop: Some mobs now spawn with purple nametags. Kill them, and you'll get a piece of Purple Powder. Collect 12 pieces of Purple Powder and you'll get a powerful reward, like a legendary helmet or set items or something. Fail, and you take damage equal to 75% of your max health.
Feel free to add more ideas below!

This is genuinely a brilliant idea, it would add a more random factor into Wynncraft which I feel it currently lacks. +1 :D

Dear God. Is this a good suggestion? . . .
    I think it is. . .

    Finally.

Seriously though, this is a good suggestion - Would add more variety to Wynncraft, instead of it being "Kill this or open this."

    +1 supporter.

Way intense to program if you do it how I think, as Meric said, but this is a pretty cool idea. Only problem is being that, what if a random guy were to walk up to the group, see 'em fighting, and jump in too? They aren't part of the starter group, so technically this could complicate things.

yeah, I agree with this 99% (the one percent is because needing to kill 500 bobs in one minute is fun)

In order to ensure that lag does not occur, could special servers be made for these miniquests, with the people involved teleported to the server in question?

Oh no... PLEASE NO ESCORT MISSIONS.
    All RPGs be like:
Your mission is to take this lv 10 guy halfway across the world while he’s running straight into his lv 90 enemies unarmed.

    But escorts are fun!
    Right...?
Okay, I'll admit that's a bit boring, but the idea of the mission is not an escort; it's a rescue. You kill the mobs before they kill the escort.
I don't know anything about programming, but yeah, it could be hard. I was thinking that the missions would spawn like mobs...
    Anyways, thanks!
    Thank you so much!

You couldn't set up a barrier because someone might need the area for a quest or something...
    This could solve that problem...
Another thing that could happen is that if another player enters the fight, more mobs just spawn.

Nuuuu! I never meant that escort missions are boring. I meant that they’re usually incredibly hard. For example, in FFTA2, there are a string of missions where you have to protect a Chocobo. Well, that wouldn’t be too hard if it wasnt really fucking dumb. Its extraordinarily low level and can’t really handle itself and could easily die before the player even had the chance to move. But on top of that, it decides to run right into the swarm of enemies trying to kill it. But on the other hand, if Square Enix had made the Chocobo have more health and more useful, it would have been a cakewalk. Its hard to balance because one, the enemies have to be hard for the player but that makes the enemies extremely hard for the escorted person. Two, if you want to ramp up the hp of the escorted person, it gives the player so much more time to kill the enemies. The difficulty decreases drastically if you don’t give it that stupidly low health.

This is a bad idea for a solution to this problem in my opinion. We already have tons of extra servers up for Guild Wars, and they'd also need a large 30s grace period for everyone to load the resource pack too. It'd get a bit complex.

Well, there could be continually respawning enemies but a strong Traveler...
You're probably right; it'll be hard to balance that. Should I remove the mission idea?

    YES!

It has been so long since I've seen a good ORIGINAL idea in the Suggestions forum. This sounds like an amazing idea, and I hope the mods decide to implement (at least) part of it, if not the whole thing. I say this because as a few people have mentioned, it could get really difficult to program, as well as lag issues.

    But yea.. Good job :)

As I said, I don't know about programming, but yeah, it could be hard...
