World Mumble (in-game Voice Chat)

Hello Wynncrafters,
you may heard about this before; for those who didn't, here is a short description:
Mumble is a combination of a server application and a minecraft mod.
Those two communicate the voice data of the players and their position.
Using the position, it is possible to mute far away players and set the volume corresponding to the distance.

What i suggest is adding a mumble server to wynncraft in order to allow players to communicate with each other in the game.
I know you can already talk together by using the wynncraft teamspeak server but having the ingame chat, you would have a much more role-play-like feeling and it is easier and more natural see someone and directly to him.

Yeah... I'm gonna hate those people that hold the push to talk button, but they never really talk about the actual game, but just some rant.

 

If it involves any sort of mod, it's not going to happen. Wynncraft takes pride in being a completely modless server.

I've personally found Discord to be alot better, as it has an in game overlay and is geared twards gamers, I've setup a wynncraft discord for anyone that wants to join it https://discordapp.com/invite/0iAtxhsyGeFmNMHv

The nice thing about mumble is the positional tracking.
With the right setting it's a bit like real world talking:
Go to someone and just talk.

Maybe there will be the possibility to force mods (needs extra minecraft update - just day dreaming ;) ).
With that option servers could force clients to install required mods - like mumble.

 

The point of Wynn being modless is to prevent any unnecessary downloads. Even the resource pack was put into heavy questioning because of the required downloads for it. Anything related to an actual mod would be completely out of the question.

 

good point but it depends on the size (data volume) of the mod if there are long download times
maybe we can bring the idea of the ingame voice chat to mojang
a whole new level...
but they once integrated pistons what was "just" a mod before - you may remember the big golden and iron blocks ;)

 

The problem with things like mumble and teamspeak is that not everyone would bother to use it so when you see someone in game and try to talk to them they probably won't answer.

 

The reason Wynncraft is modless isn't because of long download times. I'm pretty sure it's because the admins wanted to make a server using vanilla minecraft and plugins only. Selvut mentioned the resourcepack because it changes the 'Minecraft feel' that Wynncraft gives, but it only enhances previous things (the music, the weapons and the blocks). However, Mumble 1. is going to be annoying, as other people have said, in places like Detlas and 2. is an addition to Wynncraft, unlike the resource pack, which completely changes everything from the previously mentioned 'Minecraft feel' and 3. I have never seen the point in things which you chat with your voice.
Oh, and reason 4, some people aren't allowed to use mods. So yeah... no.
