The Way To Dern

Since Dern was corrupted long ago, I really think the way to enter it is gonna be using the door of time:
Think about it, you use it to time travel to the time Dern was being corrupted but was still populated, with some quests that will bring you to the current Dern

 

Hmm. Whatever the case I doubt it's history is anything like the others, so I don't believe it was originally not dark but instead there's a recent civil war in Dern which caused the emigrants.

Even though I have seen an AWESOME other suggestion for the door's usage, (about fruma)

 

Unless I've got my lore messed up, which is possible, Dern was never corrupted. It is the realm of corruption, the source.

 

If you think about it, wouldnt they have to create all the provinces farther back in history? It wouldnt make sense to just allow you to go to dern

But what about the lumberjack in the beginning of the new starting area that says the adventurer is from Fruma?
I have yet to see anyone talk about that...

The closest thing in the lore to a "Realm of Corruption" is the Nether. I think that Dern on the other hand is far more likely to be a "Realm of Darkness/Shadow." Everything we think we know about Dern relates to darkness, from the meaning of the word "Dern," to not so subtle hints at the existence of a dark realm in several quests.

The point is, Dern isn't necessarily corruption, but the other half of the conflict explained in WE Site D. The conflict causes corruption, not Dern itself. On the other hand, whether or not forces from Dern intended to unleash the "Corruption" is still unclear.

 

Right, right. I remember now. They excavated the nether portal, which what the corruption spread from. I think. Still not 100% sure.

Then there's Dern, which is like Wynn's version of The End.

 

Aren't the abandoned mines and gateway island closely related to Dern? At gateway island, the cave actually leads you to a very dark place.

 

I'm almost certain that is the case. Some really old official lore gave that info, but I'm not sure if it still exists. I think it was in some sort of Starting Guide on the main website.

 

I quite like this idea, the shrines are used to repel the darkness so this is where the towns are located, which means the truly corrupted area is much harder and for higher level players but farther away from the main city of Dern
