Let’s see if we can reach 500 votes and get this suggestion noticed!

Hello everybody! My name is Jamer_theGamer and today I bring you a very long and a pretty awesome suggestion for Wynncraft – Fishing!

First of all, I would like to say – this was not my idea originally. It was a person named @fibunny ‘s, but her thread was lost with 9/7. Fortunatly, I have managed to bring this thread back! I asked a couple of other Moderators, and they said it was fine to repost this – but I also decided to change it a bit from the original. (I decided to change it back to Version 1.0, just to make it simpler.)

The reason I’m reposting this suggestion of all suggestions is because – not only is it a great and well though-out idea – but it also had over 250 votes from before it was deleted, with only 2 against it. Most of the text below isn’t mine, but is fibunny’s – so all credit to her for the original idea!
And yes, I kept the flowers.

    ❀ Fishing In Wynncraft, Version 1.0 ❀
I believe fishing could be an interesting addition to the realms of Wynn and Gavel. It could give people something to do when they want a break from questing or grinding, or it could give those Level 75s something to do. With the addition of rare loot, collectable items and a new quest; I believe that fishing could be the next big thing in Wynncraft!

    ❀ Fishing Rod Mechanics
Fishing Rods are available to purchase from the Fishing Rod Merchant – there will be spread out among the map, but would mostly be near water and structure. A fishing rod costs 32 Emeralds and can be enhanced with level I and II Blue Powder to add 'Luck of the Sea'. (suggested by @Slimy555)

Luck of the Sea I will increase the odds of finding fish by 10%, Luck of the Sea II will increase the odds of finding map segments and rare collectables by 10%. This means that adding Blue Powder II is not always the best choice, it depends on what you want to achieve. The map symbol for the fishing rod merchant is a fishing rod.

    ❀ Fishmongers
Fishmongers are the most common Fish merchants in the world. They are scattered around the map, usually in smaller towns or popular fishing spots, and they are the ones that sell fishing rods for 32 emeralds. You can also sell fish to them if you can’t be bothered to go to another place where they’ll give you more emeralds.

    ❀ Fishing Locations
Quite simply, you can fish anywhere there is water. Imagine being able to find your favourite secluded spot and being able to fish while the sun rises high into the sky, wouldn't that be great?

    ❀ Obtainable Items From Fishing
To add even more interest to fishing I propose the creation of unique items obtainable only through fishing. These can be collectable items which feature obscure and funny references to famous players, to powerful weapons or to different armour. Fibunny has also designed a quest to go along side fishing, 'X Marks The Spot', which can only be unlocked once the user has found four parts of an old pirate map. So to sum up there are four categories of obtainable loot:

    1. Standard Fish (Sellable to various merchants throughout the land.)
    2. Junk Items (Standard existing junk such as bones or rotten flesh.)
    3. Quest Items (Four parts of a pirate map, to unlock a quest.)
    4.
Rare Loot and Collectables (Obtainable only through fishing.)

    {Rare Loot and Collectables is covered in post #2 of this thread.}

❀ Obtainable Items From Fishing, Part 1 ❀
The following section takes each of the aforementioned categories of items and dives (excuse the delightful pun) into them further.
    ❀ 1. Standard Fish
There are four types of fish which you can obtain from fishing, below I have listed what you can do with each type. All of these fish can be found in any biome, all with the same chance.

[IMG] Raw Fish: You can sell this to the Fish Supplier at the enclosed market space in Almuj. The Fish Supplier helps feed the population of Almuj, who are currently low in food supplies given the drought they are currently suffering. You can sell him 1 fish for 3 emeralds. (In par with the Fish Merchant in Nesaak.)
Alternatively, you can sell 1 fish to the Fishmongers for 1 emerald.

[IMG] Salmon: Who desires Salmon more than a chef? You can take Salmon to the Cook in Ragni, where the Cook’s Apprentice (a conveniently placed new NPC who is placed there to buy your fish) will buy 1 salmon for 8 emeralds. The Fishmongers will buy 1 salmon for 4 emeralds.

[IMG] Clownfish: Highly prized by the King of Ragni for his collection (let’s just ignore the fact that by the time you get the fish to him it will be dead!). You can go to the King's Assistant (another newly placed NPC) and sell your clownfish at a rate of 2 Emerald Blocks per 1 clown fish – he is found within one of the floors at the King’s Castle in Ragni. Alternatively, the Fishmongers will buy 1 clown fish for, but only for a measly 20 emeralds (All he's going to do is gut it and fry it, he isn't a collector!)

[IMG] Pufferfish: Isn't it so cute and prickly? I bet you didn't know that it is the secret ingredient to the famous Nemract Whiskey! What else would make you go half-blind and dizzy? You can take pufferfish to a shady looking buyer behind the Nemract Whiskey Bar called Jack (a tribute to Wynn’s very own pooferfeesh @JackDuck), where you can trade 1 pufferfish for 16 emeralds. The fishmonger will buy 1 puffer fish 8 emeralds.

So where did I (Or Fibunny, really) get these commerce rates from? The inbuilt mechanics of capturing each specific fish as explained on the Minecraft Wiki presents these chances as:

    Regular Fish: 51%
    Salmon: 25%
    Clown Fish: 2%
    Puffer Fish: 13%

These values are of course up for discussion, some may feel that the fish are worth too much or too little – or maybe there should be a challenge to get to the higher-priced Fish Suppliers? Feel free to give your opinion in the comments below!

    ❀ 2. Junk Items
Only the junk items that you would actually find in a river can be fishing up. For example I don't imagine there to be many wolf fangs at the bottom of the ocean, however there may be plenty of bones. You can fish for Bonemeal, Empty Bottles and String (old rope from sunken ships). These items can be sold at regular junk merchants for their local pricing. Admittedly there will not be much value to fishing for junk items, these are mainly red herrings (excuse the wonderful pun) to annoy the player. They can also be found in all biomes.

Bonemeal: 10% (valued at between 2 emeralds per 2 bonemeal, to 2 emeralds per 6 bonemeal)
Empty Bottle: 10% (valued at 1 emerald per 1 bottle)
String: 10% (valued at between 2 emeralds per 2 string, to 2 emeralds per 6 string)

    ❀ 3. Quest Items
Fibunny's quest called 'X Marks The Spot' will be described in full detail on post #4 of this thread. In order to unlock this quest you must obtain four pirate map segments. These can only be obtained by fishing, and can not be traded. Map segments are represented by the paper item, and can be found in all biomes.

You have a 2.5% chance of recovering a map segment each time you fish. Once you have fished a total of 4, 6 or 8 (depending on the amount of classes available to you) copies of each segment, you will no longer be able to obtain more copies of that specific segment. Giving all four segments of the pirate map to the quest giver will start the quest.

❀ 4. Rare Loot And Collectables

Rare Loot and Collectables are described in more detail on post #2 of this thread, scroll down for more!

❀ Obtainable Items From Fishing, Part 2 ❀
In this section we take a look at the Rare Loot and Collectable Items obtainable through fishing. The Rare Loot will be non-tradable, giving more incentive for people to try fishing for themselves.
The Rare Loot, however, will be tradable – they’re pretty much like trading cards. Who wouldn’t want to collect them all?
If you would like to suggest your own ideas for rare or collectable items please feel free to do so in the comments!

❀ 4. Rare Loot And Collectables
These items are split into two subcategories. Rare Loot is used to describe random functional items that can be used productively such as weapons and armour. Collectables are items which have no intrinsic function, other than to be a collectable (Come on, how many people are going to work their butt off to get a full set, you know you are one of them! It’s just like trading cards!).

    ❀ 4.1 Listing Collectables
If you wish to suggest any additions to the section please feel free to do so in the comments, if I feel they warrant addition then I will add them in (and credit you of course!).
The descriptions below the item will be the lore on the item in-game.

    ❀ Community Feedback ❀
In this section, we take a look at some of the feedback that you guys have given, and also attempt to highlight some of the issues that may arise in theoretically implementing this idea.
Fishing wouldn't be able to hurt you or anything like that, (unless a monster hits you while fishing), and you wouldn't be able to eat the fish. However, you can catch Rare Loot, which, after identification, can give you Health Regen.
Not a bad idea, but I think if I made it so you'd have to do a Quest to unlock the fishing rods, it'd discourage people from fishing. You already get to adventure to the different Fish Buyers, and different biomes for different items.
Your baits/fishing armour idea is already used in the form of Blue Powders. Read the "Fishing Rod Mechanics section on the first post.
    For those that were wondering, this was his suggestion;
"When fishing there is a 3% chance of your line getting tangled, this prevents you from further fishing for 3 minutes."
I decided to remove this because I felt it would be useless the code, and it would also be unnecessary and probably annoy players. Fishing is meant to be a relaxing thing, and people have complained that fishing in Minecraft is already hard enough - I don't want to add something that I feel would annoy the player.
    Sorry! :L

    ❀ X Marks The Spot ❀
In this section I present a new quest to go along side fishing, 'X Marks The Spot', yarr!

[Note: If I am unable to find a copy of this Quest that Fibunny had wrote, then I’ll either write up my own or I’ll remove this post – depending on what the community thinks.]

[UPDATE: Apparently it was never written, but I'll keep this post here in case anyone has any idea for a Quest like this or similar to this!]

    ❀ Extra Post ❀
If it's not used for a Quest, this post is reserved just in case I need to use it for something – I might need more text space in the future.

Remember to leave feedback for everything!

Once again, credit to @fibunny for being the one that started this brilliant idea.

UPDATE: This thread has been slightly revived! It'd be appreciated if you only liked the first post, instead of spamming my alerts with likes, and screwing up my like/post ratio. ;P

Salted states that in the Gavel Expansion, there will be health items that grant health and such. Will fishing have any impact on health? Would there be consumables that grant health, for example?

There's only one thing I would change. I would like to obtain the first fishing rod by doing a quest. If you want to obtain more fishing rods, you can buy them once you have the quest done.
