SPOILER Yes The Eye Is Powerful, But Who Created Him?

To start off, read this sign.

Now, the first line is a bit irrelevant.
The next 2 seem like what one of the ancients would say, savvy? But what of the fourth?

"They fear me..."

This makes me think that they, being the ancients, created the Eye.
But thats not it. A few stories in the prison higher and we have this:

This one I think we are all more familiar with. This gives me the vibe that the person they fear is the Eye. Because if "they" created me was written by an ancient, why would the Eye fear him? But rather, why would they fear the Eye?

"But Gorobeatz! It cant possibly be like that! The Eye cant be so small to be in a prison, can he?

Well this makes it seem as if he used to be the same size, maybe even smaller than the ancients:

And he clearly gained more power.

And that was my speculation, that the Ancients created the Eye. The Eye didnt create them.

To answer your poll...

Either there's no context for this, you've decided for some reason to omit that context despite it being pretty necessary for this to make sense, or you're grasping at straws. Whatever the case, this just feels like an empty theory

 

I mean, this is assuming that the signs are even referring to the eye.

If you've read the signs, they are pertaining to the eye. But I wasnt going to upload literally all of them

I never explored the ancient ruined city myself, in part because I didn’t think it was worth going off trail with all the monsters and some people already explored it.

 

The 3 signs you showed say random text that could mean a thousand different things... You provided 0 context, only some ""evidence."" Unless you just happen to know these exact signs then this thread is practically meaningless.

We can tell you're trying to make a theory about the Eye, but there's nothing telling us why these signs are important or relevant.

 

Why do you think its a theory? Because it cant be proven. Just like almost every other theory on the Eye.

And it isnt some grand opinion on Dern, its a small speculation on the Eye. But here is my question.

Would it make sense for an ancient to write a sign, saying that something fears him? Ancients are practically nothing compared to what we think of the Eye.

You're missing the whole point here. I'm not even trying to debunk the theory, because it's just so incomplete. You're not even arguing the right argument. Hell you're even countering points I haven't even made. Makes me wonder if maybe you're just a bit too eager to defend your theory.

In any case, to reiterate: most of us have no clue what's going on in your pictures. You've posted 3 pictures of signs and not much else. There's no context, nothing linking them to anything at all. They're connected to each other, sort of, but nothing else. That's the problem I've got with this thread right now. You're missing the part of the theory that makes it relevant to anything.

I think you are wrong

I agree that the second sign references The Eye, but not the other two.

Firstly, in that same area (I’m assuming this is the hidden area in the ancient city) there should be one ancient that’s
different. Cursed Ancient or something I think it’s called. It’s invisible, so is just a floating pair of eyes. That’s what the first sign could be referring to. This specific Ancient may have done something wrong, so the others punished it. They fear what they have created, but needed to do it.

As for the third sign, many signs actually show signs of Ancients going insane, so that could just be any random Ancient going insane and wanting more power.

And, frankly, it’s made rather clear that The Eye is trapped in Dern, not in Wynn, so it can’t have written the third sign. (Also, no one ever said the Eye made the Ancients, idk where you got that bit from. Source?)

eh, I thought them all being in the ancients prison and have been written by ancients was enough to correlate my theory to the Ancients, The Eye, and his origins, considering that the prison is our only source of anything at all concrete-related to the ancients

 

I’m by no means the final say in anything. I pop in and give my thoughts, especially when I’m tagged in like here, but I always encourage discussion. I want to hear what you have to say.

 

Firstly, what? Never heard of the Eye being trapped, and I never said it was trapped in the first place

Secondly, let me rephrase that.

The Eye commands the ancients. He has dominion over them. But the created concept was me saying that it could be that the Ancients created the Eye, which is my entire theory in a few words.

Firstly, that is the common assumption brought on from the Bob Lore. He heard of a very powerful evil entity from a “dark far off land” (descriptors commonly used to describe Dern) and went off to kill it before it spread. I think we can agree that a big powerful evil entity in Dern is the Eye. Anyway, he couldn’t kill it, and used the last of his life force to seal it away, as per the Sealed Letters (which idk if those are canon anymore, but I’m gonna assume they are until told otherwise). Due to this, most theories go off of the idea that the Eye is trapped in Dern.

Secondly, kind of. The most common theory I’ve heard is that Dern was not always a far off dark place. It was a normal province. But, like in Gavel and Wynn, there was a portal. This portal lead to, as we all basically have figured out at this point, the realm of darkness (some quests also refer to the realm of shadows, same place but different name). In this, like how the Nether has CoW (or maybe Charon or Bak’al) and the RoL has that thing I can’t remember the name of that starts with an O, each realm has a “Beast” (the one in the realm of light is specifically called the “Light Beast” or whatever). If this theory holds true, The Eye is the beast of the Realm of Darkness. It emerged from the realm when the portal opened, and basically turned all of Dern dark and enslaved the people. The Ancients are typically assumed to be the ones who ran away from Dern to Wynn. So yes, The Eye has control over the race that the Ancients are, but the Ancients themselves are free from its grasp, the runaways. But, of course, this is still all theory, not confirmed.

 

Can we assume the eye to be androgynous? Its an entity, why would it be male?
