Welcome to Wynn News. Today we'll be discussing a community rant turned into a community project, Grian's discussion in the shout box, the latest FW, and Igbar's six months since he has left the forums.

Recently, a player by the name of @FlubbyB posted a "Community Rant" that was very controversial. This post covered the different "groups" he believes there are in the community, two-faced members, and non-connecting staff. All of these things are debatable. Flubby ends with telling us that he hopes the thread can spark discussion, and "I'm just Flubby, goodbye". Flubby left the forums after this thread, leaving many different opinionated players in one cramped thread. However, amidst the flame, certain members came together to try and "fix" the community. Some people such as @Ganny believe that the community is alright as it is, and the little things show up more the better the community. Others believe we can do better. One of these people is @Pretzule. Preztule is here to talk about recent events and her view on the situation.

I am Pretzule. I have been a mod for almost three years and I have seen a lot of stuff in this community and from the people that make it up.

Recently, a friend of mine by the name of Flubby made a thread addressing the issues he thinks that are in the community, and (to some degree) I agree.
Now these points address the community and how we act towards each other. From the time I have been here I have seen the community get more and more toxic. Now the reason is mainly because of a group and the situations it finds itself in. However, we have to change the community that has been created; make the community better and be a fun place again. On the surface, it may seem fine, but if you go deeper into the picture and really get into what is happening, you can see what is going on and how people are. We have to change as a community. That is basically it. We have to change and if we don't we will just keep getting worse.

Now not all of us are toxic, or bad, or try to make the community their playground, but to the ones that want the community to last and to thrive, I encourage you to go for it: help make the community a better place. Help change it into a fun environment and not something where you can find hate if you dig a little. I am hoping, truly hoping, that we can all change, and grow, and start to think from what the thread has given us. If we can't, then we will just get worse. Everyone's actions reflect each other.

Thank you Pretzule. It's a pleasure to have you on the show. After the the the thread was created, it received over 50 replies in one hour. The discussion was a roller coaster from heated to civil, back to heated. After some time, Grian personally deleted the thread himself, however players have copies of the thread which I'm not sure we're allowed to give out at the moment. Speaking of Grian, recently lead GM and Owner, Grian was spotted in the shout box following the creation of the community rant thread. Players got to talking with him about the community and how some of the Admins were a bit too silent when it comes to interacting with the community. Grian replied with mainly two things: his reasons for being inactive, and his plans to incorporate more of Wynncraft on his Youtube channel. Grian explained in the shoutbox that in the near future he would be:​

• Creating a video over the Gameplay Update after the update is released
• Creating a Lets Play over the main storyline on his channel.

The second part is very important due to the fact that our information on the main storyline has been very limited recently. We hope to learn more in the future!

Recently, a thread was created revealing this weeks Featured Wynncraftian, @Ascended Kitten. Ascended Kitten was nominated by @LordMuttonChops and was involved in the creation of Wynncon and the search tool used to search for items! In the thread, she was interviewed over her background with programming, involvement with Wynncon, beginning's in Wynncraft, and views on the upcoming update. "It is a great honor to be picked as FW, one I never thought I'd be bestowed with", Ascended Kitten tell me. Ascended Kitten also has a few words to say about recent events, and her view on the situation.

Although this is a rather unpopular opinion about the recent events, I don't agree with Flubby. As much as I respect him for his opinion and courage, I don't think simply re-presenting already known problems will get us anywhere close to a solution. While the discussion remained rather peaceful, most of the replies just fueled more complaints, and weren't exactly working towards a community-solution. However, the flaws mentioned in Flubby's thread have their eligibility. Staff members are, generally seen, too passive and often aren't involved enough to make decisions. Another point addressed was the toxicity within the community itself. I might be blind, but in my opinion this isn't as much of a problem as everyone seems to want it to be. I've seen different communities, and I can assure you there is way worse than Wynn. Of course toxic behavior exists, no one can deny it, but it still is just a unbelievable small part of the community. Those members spreading it are noticed the most because they differ, but if we learn to ignore them, there is no way for such a behaviour to spread further. We should focus on improving and mending wound parts, rather than opening old wounds.

And now for a more light-hearted story. That's right everyone; it has been six months since the renowned @IgbarVonSquid™ has left the forums. Many players have very special memories about this player, and were very upset to see him go. "He was really funny. I'll miss his Wynn videos", @Grimmcat tells me. However, Igbar isn't gone fully. Although far from active, Igbar still keeps tabs on Wynncraft every now and then. Just an hour ago, Igbar was seen viewing the forums list. So to everyone reading this, head on over to Igbar's profile page and show him some love by commenting "#JustKeepSwimming Igbar".

I was going to get your opinion on the thread as well, but I believe the story was getting too long. And if you're saying I should've interviewed Flubby, I was under the impression he left.

actually, he did have reasons. I didn't mention this in my thread as to not prolong the drama. There was 3 of them, and they were pretty much:
1. The thread was not constructive and was just a rant without any ideas on how to fix things.
2. at least 4 paragraphs were just about Flubby, and had nothing to do with the point which he was making (meh reason but ok)
3. It had straight up lies in it, and grian doesn't want to let that spread.

You might want to edit the thread (except if you don't want to of course) :)

 

Pretzule might have edited his/her gender like @Nepeta Leijon for the sake of his Homestuck character.

There was no flame war, just 2-4 blokes with flamethrowers with very loud voices. Most of the thread was a civil conversation with a couple of people who enjoyed laying down bait to start a flamewar. As much as I don't want to say this, you and Grian should meet, in a hotel.

 

Pretzule is my favorite mod.

 

I like the tone of this edition. Many things happened, and had to be gathered at one point, to inform us of recent events. Now that's what journalism is!
