    It happens a lot, if they /class and come back you should see them again. That would kick you if you are in a raid or boss battle, so the other options is to use a disguise (found in crates). disguising and removing it makes you visible.

    In addition, getting far enough away from each other and then meeting up again works; it's something to do with Minecraft trying to render them iirc so resetting that fixes it.

    I haven't had this issue since I started using 1.18.2 instead of 1.12.2
