What's Wrong With Archer's Escape Spell

My Escape spell for archer has been very inconsistent in the sense that sometimes I go sailed through the air, sometimes I only go about 4 blocks back, sometimes I don't move at all. I do not know if this can be attributed to lag, but if it is fixable, please tell me, it would be nice to know.

 

I think it depends on the direction you're facing.

heres what happens:if you land on the very edge of a block,it counts as still in air if you're shifting on the edge of a cliff,so you can't use it.The four block is the regular jump backwards,and if you spam before you hit the ground or very quickly as you hit the ground,you will go flying.

 

Okay, here's how it works.

Once you use Escape once, you can't use it again while in midair. If you touch the ground and quickly use it again, you only jump about 4 blocks.
