What Kind Of Build Should I Be Looking Towards?

Level 75 mage here. I need help understanding mage builds in this game. How do builds other than spell damage/mana regen work? So far, both from my own playthrough and looking at other items, it seems like the only viable and good play style for mage is to stack mana regen and spam spells. I'm obviously wrong, but I don't know why.

In any case, should I be building towards anything other than mana regen/spell spam? I've had lots and lots of fun with agility gear recently, but spamming meteor and ice snake is just so much better. What other play styles are viable?

Trying to understand the game more deeply.

There are very, very many options for builds, but for mages, the most optimal is to stack up on mana regen and spell damage to get the most out of your spells. If you want to try some other playstyles, looking in the Class Builds section is probably your best bet, especially the Atlas Inc Build Aid
