I really don't see how necroposting is bad.

Actually, I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I find myself scrolling through the forums, and upon encountering a post I'd care to comment on, I find it to be locked (or worse, in that pre-lock stage where the tantalizing thought of posting a message is still doable but against the rules).

    It's generally frustrating.
I think the point is to keep people from trying to revive dead concepts that should have more revision if they're to be put back on the forums, but I could be wrong about that, and it's still disappointing.

It's to stop old posts that have become inactive from showing up at the top again because someone bumped it after 3 months. If the post has been inactive for the 30 days (or however long it takes) it takes to be locked then people probably don't care too much about it and it would be annoying if it came to the top again.
You can always ask a mod to unlock the post though.

Yeah, I see what's good about that but I have the exact same problem with it as @En1gmatic

I don't care too much about this issue, so I'm not prepared to go into a full-blown argument over this, but the big issue is that other peoples' posts are generally the ones I'd like to comment on. You make a totally valid point; if a post hasn't been commented on in weeks, people most likely don't care about it, however perhaps a better metric of when a post should be locked is when only one person comments on a post for a month or so (making it clear that only this one person, who is most likely the writer of the post, cares about it) - there then comes the issue of "what if multiple people are bumping it", and now I'm beginning to understand that this is actually a semi-complicated issue.
The current system is fine, but if someone somehow figured out a better way of doing things, I'd definitely sign on to that.

it's already stated as an exception in the necropost rule that it's not disallowed if your post can spur new discussion

commenting "hey this happened to me!" on a 2 month old thread that already ran its course clutters the forums and doesn't contribute anything meaningful - but if you can add something relevant, interesting, novel, etc. to an older thread, it's fine (within reason)

are your morals defined by your country's legal system as well?
