What Is Dern? (basic Info)

So, I know kinda what Dern is. It is the next expansion. But what IS Dern, as a location? Is it a new province? A realm (like the Nether/Realm of Light)? I know that all the answers haven't been released yet, but I was wondering what the general consensus is.

 

It's rumoured to be the next province which is "coming soon" >.<

 

What is Dern? Oh fun!

Firstly I ask how you do not know what it is when you have it in your signature, but none the less, lets go.

Ok, so firstly Dern is, in Grian's own words, a "far off dark land"

It is "not technically considered a province in the game's lore" but "should still be considered one".

We theorists think of it like this:



It is a realm. The realm of darkness. The "big bad guy" in the war of the realms.

We believe you go through it in Fantastic Voyage, and it's color scheme is Black and Purple.

The abysso golashes are made from Dernic stone (yes, Dernic, not Dernian) and are dark magic.


Dernic things seem give off a dark aura, such as the boots and the Dark Egg.

The theorists have also agreed (although the community as a whole has not) that Bob might also be Dernic, as well as his weapon(s).


We do not know enough, but we think that when it is fully released, it will be a realm, but act like a province. Geography, cities, quests, stuff like that.

@SPYROHAWK Thank you! (It is in my signature because I know it is the next expansion.) This helps me a lot! I am still on Gavel stuff, but I am trying to catch up to be ready for Dern.

 

I would not put my cards on Dern. I feel like Fruma will be out before Dern, but that's just my speculation. I feel like Dern's like the final boss of the provinces/realms, so they would release all the other stuff before it.

 

You are probably right. Fruma makes more sense. Or possibly Corkus...

 

Dont forget that Dern is also the homeland to the teleport spell.

 

I can agree with what most of Spyro said, but Some of the keywords in his statement are "us theorists agree." It would be good to note that the "theorists" do not represent the community. While some of the things he has said are probably correct (such as Abysso Galoshes and going to Dern in Fantastic Voyage), not everything is set in stone. The Bob thing may be true, or it may not. But the thing he said that is really controversial is that Dern is a Realm. I'm going to try to keep my own opinion out of this as much as possible, but that's a little challenging. First of all, everything about Dern being a province vs being a Realm is all a matter of perspective. On one of Spyro's threads (this was pre-Gavel), Grian hinted at a new province (this turned out to be Fruma). But more importantly was what Grian said about Dern. He stated something along the lines of "The villagers do not consider Dern to be a province, but you still should." This leaves it open to discussion about whether or not Dern is a province or a Realm. Just remember, what the theorists believe is not always correct. Sometimes they're right, but sometimes they're wrong. They are called "theorists" for a reason.
