    I feel like it is either that it was a Red Herring for ??? or it was originally part of ??? but the use for it was scrapped.

    The reason I assume this is because (Putting the rest in a Spoiler, cuz it talks about ??? and I don't wanna say anything for those who haven't done it yet)

    In the ??? quest, it involves, Yahya. Yahya is obviously known for his love/obsession for mushrooms. So really, I feel like there might have been a part where you needed a "Strange Mushroom" (Maybe one of both, Red and Brown) And the other items you need? Either that, or you would need it for something else. However, I don't know if this is fact, so don't quote me or anything.
