What Are Guilds?

This sounds really nooby.
So I'm kinda a player from about a year ago when there weren't guilds, and I don't know what guilds are. Anyone mind telling me? Also if it's not that time-intensive stuff if anyone would want to recruit me that would be nice. I'm a level 83 archer that I focus on mainly with a decent amount of LE (2 stacks) left from before I quit.

EDIT: So I'm looking through the pages and it looks like most guilds ask to be active, but I can't be on too much during school days :(

 

Ok so Guilds are like factions, a community of players, except you don't build a base, you RAID areas to claim as your own. You may make alliances and create your own guild if you like (cost is 5 le to make one I think). Its fun and you can contribute to make your guild stronger and purchase types of mobs to guard your territory while you're gone. you may find spots being taken by different guilds time to time and changing too. Thanks for replying. Do you know if guilds have any special benefits? Is taking cities and protecting them like the old zombie horde raids on towns?

 

I used to run my own guild but I quit (practically backstabbing call me a traitor if you will), I haven't joined one in a while and judging by memory, I think it doesn't really benefit the player but it benefits the guild. Its good to join a guild though, seems these days everyone is asking and applying for certain guilds like Wynn Theory (like game theory haha :P) and Nethers Ascent. I've applied for a friendly community, yes there's such thing.

To me, it's really a huge waste of time considering how many emeralds it costs to maintain a strong guild. Guild wars also get very repetitive over time, as there's no variety in the mobs used. There's also little competition outside of the top few guilds, as there's already over thousands of guilds out there, last time I checked. There's also lots of stupid drama between some of the top guilds that I will not be specific with to avoid a flame war. Don't waste your time with the unless you're joining a community guild.

Edit: if you're interested in guilds, I'm not stopping you. However, I'm giving you a fair warning of what may come along.
