[velocirants] Argument From Former/opposite Identity (terfs And A Controversial View On Laci Green)

Alright, so I couldn't find a word or phrase for what I wanted to describe, so I made my own.
also, if anyone could come up with better names or examples, i'd be really happy to replace them because mine suck

Argument from Former Identity-

Using an identity you possessed in the past to support the claim of the opposite.
"I used to believe that bisexual people existed, but I was convinced that bisexual people don't exist. Therefore, because it should have taken a large amount of evidence to prove me wrong, I'm right because of the change of identity."

Argument from Opposite Identity-

Using your identity to create false credit to your argument to the opposite of what your identity would seemingly argue. Sort of like a converse to the Argumentum Ad Populum
"I'm a feminist, but I don't believe transgender people exist. Therefore, because the majority of feminists do believe that transgender people exist, I'm right for some reason".

TERFs (Transgender Exclusionary Radical Feminists / Tunicate Excrement; Really Fucked)


Otherwise known as "the Counterexample to the Theory of Natural Selection", "The offspring of Dolly the Sheep, infused with sea squirt DNA to fuck with the other scientists", "Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov's failed experiments", "Proof of aliens modifying the human genome", and "A collection of dicks knotted together".

If someone asked me a few months ago if I believed that there were radfems who hated trans people, I'd say "Yeah, as long as you believe that there's a society of tunicates living inside my lungs.". I should probably see a pulmonologist.
From what I could gather (it makes no sense to anyone who doesn't have the brain of a larval sea squirt), TERFs claim they are radical feminists who believe that transgender women are men "pretending to be women" (we all know how much radical feminists hate men) and somehow basking in "male privilege", and that transgender men are "gender traitors" or something.

What I honestly believe is they're people who got bored of trying to accept everyone and wanted something soft to bully.

Truth is, most trans people are easy to hurt by means of hurting their confidence in their identified gender, myself included. We're soft targets for people who want to emotionally harm people. By trying to tear away who we are, our identity, the thing we work so hard to protect, it can cause actual harm, and TERFs know this. By hurting people (and calling people "men" as an insult), I honestly think that they get some sort of sadistic pleasure.
Personally, for me, when someone hates something I am for no reason, that thing grows more intense. The more people I see that hate trans people, the more I identify as trans. However, some people can be really hurt by being torn away from what they fought desperately to be.
Ooh! Speaking of feminists who don't believe that trans people exist...


Laci Green


The internet is having a fucking huge nut over Laci Green being the former-feminist. I, personally, was disinterested (Not because of the Argument from Former Identity thing I mentioned above, just because everyone was and still is having a huge circlejerk over social justice warriors and shit and I got super burnt out of it just reading the fucking titles on Youtube). However, Laci Green recently tweeted this:

and, as a trans person, I was pissed the fuck off.
"male" and "female" aren't biological sexes themselves. The biological sex male/female is. Saying that "male" and "female" do not apply to gender is completely irrelevant to what actually matters. Say biological female/male (or, if you want to sound like some sort of Star-trek character, "Bio-sex female/male" works too). That's all you fucking have to do. Obviously, if we're in a biology textbook, we already assume that it's not talking about gender identity because it's not a fucking psychology book. However, if you insist on calling trans men "female" or trans women "male", that's not an okay thing to do, because of the hurt you can cause to trans people.

Just because she's a "rogue feminist" (i think that massive amount of edge just cut off 3/4 of my limbs) doesn't mean her arguments are any more valid than the rest of us.


In conclusion, don't trust people soley based on who they are/were, TERFs are God's failed attempt at making sea squirts, and Laci Green gets much more credit than she deserves.

 

How I see it, a lot of this is arguing over semantics. I don't hate trans people or homosexual people, and I don't wish to offend anyone. It's just I don't get why people get in such a knot when someone talks about gender and another gets hung up over a certain word, while they both mean to talk about the same thing. It just seems like a lot of trouble over a little miscommunication.

I'm not against trans people, and I am actually against discrimination solely because of the fact that someone is LGBT, or discrimination by the colour of a person's skin, ethnicity or race. As for Laci Green, I don't agree with the way she works - stating opinion as fact is a 100% no - go in my book. Its true that "female" or "male" may be classified by their body parts, but I totally, totally disagree that sex does not affect characterisics, etc.
