Thoughts About Black Mirror

Recently my friends got me into Black Mirror. I’ve heard of it b4, but I never really looked into it. And boi, is it fucked up. After a few episodes you come to expect a twist at the end, but it’s always in a way you don’t expect. This and the uniqueness of each episode is what I like about the show (besides the sex scenes). My favorite episodes so far are Black Museum and White Christmas. However, the last episode I watched didn’t sit well with me compared to the others: San Junipero. That episode just doesn’t feel like a Black Mirror episode at all. The episode doesn’t go anywhere at first until the middle, and then it takes a 180 at the end and doesn’t make sense. I didn’t really get what the point of the episode was supposed to be. And no, I’m not dissing this episode because it focused on a lesbian relationship. It wouldn’t have made much sense if the couple were straight. I just found it odd how the episode focused purely on their relationship instead of some outside conflict like the other episodes did. And yes I know they did something like this b4 with Be Right Back, but that wasn’t as surreal and edgy as this episode was. Plus it still had somewhat of a point and an ending that made sense and didn’t contradict the chatacter’s motivations.

Anyway, sorry for ranting a bit, but this episode kinda disappointed me compared to the rest. I’m especially bummed because now my parents are disinterested in the show after showing them this episode and they were just beginning to like the series. Did you guys like or dislike this episode and why?

 

I've never really watched Black Mirror, so I can't comment on the episode. However, nothing is perfect. Even a good show has few duds. San Junipero is one of Black Mirror's duds.
