SPOILER THEORY: The EO Key Guardian has TERRIFYING ORIGINS.

This Key Guardian stood out to me as being really weird, considering not only is it passive but it actively tries to hand you the key during it's lifespan. And then I made a connection between the key guardian and Kantyrs... the connection should be more apparent with this imgur link:

So let's get to the point, I think that the eye horrifically distorts Kantyrs, turning them into vessels with the purpose of provoking the Player to recklessly raid The Outlook.

But why?

I feel as though this is very on brand for the Eye, as Kantyr's are probably the only we come to appreciate when roaming the expanse. So it'd be a way to provoke the player to approach, as we realise the one mob we come to appreciate in the expanse is horrifically altered and doomed by The Eye purely to enrage the player enough to recklessly invade the Outlook.

If this is true, I really commend the Wynncraft developer who thought of this, because it's absolutely Genius, why?

The Key Guardian brilliantly showcases The Eye's cruel, calculating nature, as brutally contorting a mob that fights for light in order to maximise a chance at discouraging or killing the player, one of the light's strongest forces, is not only exceedingly cruel, but the most optimal way The Eye can snuff more light, effectively killing two birds with one stone. Should you not enter, then The Eye will assume you're too pathetic to be a threat, and should you enter, it get's a chance to kill you itself. Either way, it's neutralised a Kantyr, a mob that actively kills it's soldiers, hamperings the spread of darkness. I'll also add that this makes the key guardian, one of very few passive mobs in the Expanse, one of the most creepy even among the other mobs in the expanse.

So, to those who own them, make sure you never let your Kantyr Dusk Calves out of sight while exploring the expanse...

TL:DR The Eye brutally contorts Kantyr's into Key Guardians to maximise the chance of the player entering the outlook.

There are a lot of theories out there that seem far fetched, but this seems very plausible. I never noticed the similarities between those two mobs.

 

this is actually a pretty interesting theory. I always thought that it was weird how EO key guardians were "passive" mobs, but still had the ability to damage the player without being provoked. I never noticed the similarities between kantyrs and the EO guardians either, but considering there is another mob in the SE called "Repurposed Host" (that has a face that looks like an Olm and the same purple eye texture), your idea does make a lot of sense. also, the EO key guardian's pose of holding the key outwards while following the player around probably fits in with your idea

Tbh there are even more similiar mobs in Void Valley, which probably means it's just naturally twisted Kantyr

Still interesting though, since EO guardian doesn't spawn in void valley at all

 

I mean in terms of the player's role in the lore, we are powerful but we also aren't really seen as much of a threat by the darkness, like in {SPOILERS} Realm of Light V, Bak'al doesn't even bother fighting the player because he sees them as too weak to be worth the effort, he goes out of his way to fight Lari instead.

 

Interesting theory. I like it. The Eye does seem to want you to enter the Outlook due to the dialogues it has.

 

Considering that this is the only (i think) green-named mob that can actually harm the player in the whole game, this would actually make sense. A peaceful kantyr, twisted and warped by the Darkness

Another mob in the Expanse called the "Repurposed Host" is actually the corpse of an Olm who lived in the Silent Expanse once, infested by a parasite. It looks very similar to this mob, actually

 

This is a very good theory it and it might be true or…

dev team got lazy and just altered the kantyr for EO guardian

 

I suppose if that's true I've provided them an excuse to go "Trust us guys we definitely designed the key guardian with this deeper meaning from the beginning" lelel
