Introduction


The Throne of Gavel is a retelling of the events known as the Wars of the Cousins as described by the Archivist NPC in the 2.0 HERO beta. It’s partially inspired by the War of the Roses, an feudal English civil war, and written in the style of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

As the Wars of the Cousins are events that canonically span over years, intervals of time between chapters will be frequent and can last from days up to years. Events present through the narrative are often not canonical- many are merely just additions to canon events. Many characters and factions present in these stories are also non-canonical.

Before we begin, however, I would like to thank Endistic for the formatting and editing-related help he provided. Without his help, this process would have gone a lot slower.

The Great Houses of Gavel (463 BP)


The House of Valorian

The Valorians are an old and powerful dynasty of rulers descended from Remikas the Ironwilled, the first king of Gavel. Having taken the city of Cinfras as their seat, the Valorians rule with a firm but generous hand.

The banner of the Valorians are a green laurel wreath upon a golden field.


-Members and allies of the Valorians:

-Queen Marika Valorian, also known as Marika the Admired, ruler of Gavel.

-Her son, Prince Emil Valorian, heir to the throne of Gavel.

- Aramis Valorian, her younger brother and husband to Lady Elena of House Kander.

- Alhard Valorian, Aramis’ child, a ward of the Dendrofts.

- Sivelle Valorian, Aramis’ eldest child and wife of Lord Malcolm Faltach.

-Raemin Valorian, Sivelle and Malcolm’s daughter.

- Amara “the Guardian,” chiefmost of House Valorian’s order of knights.

-Arthur Talor, a Bovemist priest serving in Cinfras.

-The Raven, a mysterious lord and a recently appointed advisor.

The House of Dendroft

The Dendrofts are a new but wealthy family that have risen to power through business and trade. Known for financing the creation of the quartz city of Llevigar, the Dendrofts are well-loved and respected by the people of Gavel’s western plains.

-Lord Cohan Dendroft, a wealthy merchant and the lord of Llevigar.

-Lady Sabrina Dendroft, his wife.

-Callum Dendroft, son of Sabrina and Cohan, the heir to Llevigar.

-Qira Dendroft, Cohan and Sabrina’s adopted daughter.

-Kanara Dendroft, Cohan’s sister and Marika’s chief advisor.

-Aerios, a skilled elementalist in Cohan’s service.



The House of Thronden

The Dwarves have long reigned over the Canyon of the Lost as a protectorate of the Gavellian throne. The Throndens are the most notable of the Dwarven lords, having gained notable fame for siding with Remikas in his first conquest of Gavel.

House Thronden has claimed their ancestral home, the cavern city of Thanos as their seat. Their banner is a black wolf over a red field.

-King Axel Thronden.

-Queen Nadia Thronden, Axel’s wife.

-Alina Thronden, Nadia and Axel’s daughter, the heir to the Canyon.



The Statesmen of Ahms

The most remote and powerful of the Gavellian kingdoms, Ahms was an influential ally of Remikas in the early stages of his empire. Although it lacks Eastern Gavel’s feudal government, the region is still considered part of Remikas’ empire. Ahms is a region highly steeped in tradition and myth, and its matter of rulers’ succession is determined by Farcor, an ancient and wise dragon sage.

The banner of Ahms is a silver dragon upon a blue and white field.


Members and allies of Ahms:

-Farcor the Wise, an ancient dragon and the patron of the Knights of Wind.

- Breeze Nasim, the Voice of Farcor and a Knight of the Wind. Recognized as the primary ruler of Ahms.

-High Magus Uridel, runemage of the Kaian Order.

-The Dogun ambassador Morkai, caretaker of the Colossi.



The House of Faltach

After the defeat of the Blackstones, a noble house opposing Remikas’ conquest, the Valorians appointed Lady Islay Faltach as the new governor of the Great Forest.

Islay was a formidable ruler and quickly united the remaining Blackstones and the Caritats, another minor Forest house, into one unified region. Now, however, after conflicts with the Orcs and the steadily growing influence of the Elves in Aldorei, the Faltachs have become limited to the northern Great Forest, specifically Kander, where they hold court.

The banner of the Faltachs are two interlocked hands upon a gray field.

-Lord Malcolm Faltach, Lord of the Great Forest. Married to Sivelle Valorian.

-Lady Natalia Faltach, his sister.

-Lord Liam Blackstone, a ward of the Faltachs and the Lord of Gelibord in title.

Sorry if it’s taken a while, but the first chapter of TToG is coming close to being finished. As of right now, it’s much longer than the prologue-in fact one of the longest chapters in the entire first part. I also have a side project set in TToG’s canon coming soon afterwards as well.
