SPOILER Temple Of Legends (help Please!)

So at one part in the "Temple Of Legends" quest, you have to go get some Lightdust, which is in the Nether. Only problem is, no one can go into the Nether. Is there anyway I can still get lightdust, or can I just not do the quest?

 

It's near the Nether Portal.

 

You're not actually going "into" the nether, but the region of nether like terrain, aka the Roots of Corruption. There should be a stairway going into the nether. Facing the portal, you should go to the left direction of the area, exploring the tunnels to find the Light Dust.

...I might need some more help. To make the helmet you need to find a man named Garull, who is obsessed with Creepers. Kelight doesn't give you ANY other information about him, and the only Creeper obsessed person we really know is Thomas. I thought he might want to be doing is reserch live, but he's not at the creeper cave. Where is he?
