Some Thoughts On Revamp Ewa From Discord

Note that my ideas kind of evolved as I was typing, but I found this interesting so I'm posting it here for discussion. Gigavern and I were talking about the revamp design pattern, i.e. the coupling of elements.



I'd love to here what other people think of this.

 

I feel like my understanding of items is too shallow to keep up with this conversation but I like what I comprehend.

The current item pool is an ouchie to this though; someone else said somewhere (probably in the Master Hive thread) that we already face a significant scarcity of viable EWA items in the current item pool, especially with respect to mana steal (almost no strong EWA armour except Galleon, which places too little emphasis into spell, really offers it).

Aphotic, a prominent EWA helmet (Pisces was tailored to EWF in the original beta and still annoying to work with in the current pool), sounds like a concern too because it's contradictory with the idea of faster attack speeds being associated with EWA, unless you're only addressing base attack speed.

On the other hand I see things like Torrential Tide fitting in well with the idea since it carries base Super Fast, relies on mana steal and doesn't own a powder special. A lot of armours like Ex Nihilo can be adjusted to offer raw damages instead.

also is t6t6 stinger a viable secondary to EWA or is that getting nerfed

My thoughts on EWA being fast hybrid stem from our discussion on the overlap with ETA's +tier orientation.

In the discussion, Giga and I basically came to the conclusion that -tier should be heavily uncoupled, that is accessible to just about any playstyle. Regardless, note that Aphotic is neither currently nor was in revamp an EWA item. I wonder if that idea at present stems from my attempts at popularizing the Aphotic/Ex Nihilo combo.

I wouldn't call Torrential Tide a fit - I would say that anything with a base attack speed of Super Fast won't work with this combo, and Very Fast will only work if you're really skilled (which is fine imo). I'm envisioning items like Manna, Sitis, Alka Cometflinger, Requiem, etc. as examples for items that would fit in this archetype (of course, Sitis also works in revamp-styled TWF as well, as is the point - items can have a variety of uses). Powder specials would not likely be a major focus of the archetype, but I had other thoughts on powder specials, which I'll eventually put in a suggestion thread somewhere.
