Art Some Illustrations

I don't usually post here but I finished these two pieces recently and I was kinda proud of them so why not.


Notre Dame Cathedral, done with QOR watercolors.


This is just a landscape that was inspired by Witcher 3, specifically Velen. Done in Prismacolor colored pencils.​

 

That cathedral reminds me a lot of the temple of time, and I really like the up close detail on the ground in the second. Nice work!

 

Wow, the colors on Notre Dame look exceptional! I love how the paint doesn't fit the lines at all. It really gives it a dreamy and charming aesthetic.
Also, I have no clue how you did the landscape. It looks mysterious and almost impressionistic in style. Whenever I use prismacolor color pencils, the end result is always a grainy texture of crayons. Most likely, I need to use a blending pencil or color pencil paper... but I'm getting sidetracked. It looks amazing :D

Thank you! It always take me a long time to use colored pencils because I mostly layer them more than anything, but it takes a lot of patience (that piece took me around 25 hours). I always start very light with colored pencils so that way I can layer more pigment, and slowly build up and blend it out as I go, until I burnish the paper at the very end. I used to only use a colorless blender for blending, but I prefer the way I do it now, even if it's much slower. For this piece, I only used a blender for the hills in the very back.

 

People take it too far way too much.

Thank you for the insight! I use gradual layering when I'm working with prismacolor pencils as well, but I found out only recently that blending pencils and specialized paper were available. It looks like my art life has been a lie haha. I checked the multipurpose paper I was using for my drawings, and it only had a 2/5 star rating for color pencils. Whoops!

As for burnishing, I understand your pain of how long it takes. Layer after layer, stroke after stroke, but at least it always turns out great in the end. Really, yours looks exceptionally smooth. I just hope the white and (verdant I'm guessing) you used isn't a two centimeter stub now.
