Small Farming House

This is just a small house I quickly made. Its supposed to be like its in Dern... hence the obsidean, coal blocks, and generally darker blocks. I made the scarecrow in the farm using a /give skull command,armourstand, and fence. I also figured out how to give chests particle effects like they do in wynncraft. Please ignore the buildings in the background. they aren't related to this build

I dislike the build because the dark oak planks in the wall don't give depth, and they blend too much with the framing. Rather than this, you have the right idea!

 

Let me go over this:
The house is in a square shape, houses in this shape wont look very good
You tried adding depths, but its not working, Try to create depths by making your walls go 1 in (behind the oak logs, hard to explain)
The roof would be alright, but it just doesnt look very good, try adding sides to it that extends out, adds alot of depth (Search up "Minecraft roof" on google images for a few good examples)
Again, squares dont look very good, so add some shape to your farm, the cobble wall would look sligthly better if you did so
Its all broken and destroyed, the little "river" is just a straight line, to fix the water add small puddles around, or you can try being more creative and make like a small pond or something, just use your imagination

Its a okay start, but needs alot of work

EDIT: the little window in the roof looks out of place, and when doing windows use glass panes
EDIT #2 When talking about the roof "depth" im talking about the front side/back side, where the door is

 

I thank everyone for their input and I will try to improve it. Its also supposed to be more of a shack and thats why I made it square but I can try making it not square

 

I've Made some edits to make the shack look better. I've made the roof have some overhangs on the front and back as well as add some shape to the farm. I also added some puddles. In the front of the house there are some nether warts growing.
