Lore/Story Shadow, Town of Shade Story

Background


Corkus is known for many things, but not its folklore, its folklore is one of the few things not known about Corkus. But there is one tale which is known in Selchar, and Corkus. The tale of the Town of Shade, this tale is known by many in Corkus, and is usually told during the summer months, when people light campfires. The tale goes like this.


If you ever go towards the Fruman gate, beware of the Dark Green Beacon. You'll see it on the horizon, far far away. If you wish to visit the Beacon, know that it is from the Town of Shade. Beware the people there, as they will try to make you join their cult. If you see a green Crystal floating above the town, know that people who claim to have visited the place have never been the same. For they have turned insane. So beware of the Town of Shade.


This story is the oldest story told in Corkus, it’s been told for all the 350 years Corkus has been around, and it still hasn’t become legend. It is unknown if the Town of Shade is real, but many people have tried to go to the Fruman gate, and none have succeeded, instead they come back different. All of them have come with two objects, a Dark Cloak, and a green coin. I’ve never seen it myself, and I hope I never do. I hope it’s not real, because if it were, I would end up like my Brothers.

 

Chapter One: The Journal

Entry #1


I can’t believe it! I actually got the job . . . and so did my brothers. I guess we all grew up to be scientists in the end, though I didn’t expect that they wanted four people to study the Meteors. Maybe they just couldn’t choose only one of us, maybe we were all perfect for the job! I’m glad to be working with them for this, I couldn’t be happier. Gavel Excavation is an extremely difficult company to get a job in, almost impossible. But recently, they've been hiring more and more people. It seems like more and more people are becoming capable of excavating things, maybe they think there's some meteors in the ground that need to be dug up that we can study. Oh this job is going to be my magnum opus! It Has to be!

Entry #2


It seems I was wrong . . . we all are just expected to work in our own labs. I guess the labs my brothers and I built were made at just the right time. No matter, I’m still going to keep doing this job. I’ve been tasked with studying a **ee* meteor, and I had no clue gr**n meteors even existed in the first place! No matter what, I’ll find out as much as I can on it, I don’t want to get fired on my first assignment.

Well this is an unexpected surprise, the people of Corkus are actually letting villagers there? Apparently only scientists are allowed but whatever, I need a place to study besides my place in Gavel, The boss told me it would be better if I studied the Meteor away from Gavel anyways, so that we all are studying it in different locations. May as well study in Corkus since Fruma seems to never want to open its borders. Anyways, I’ll write in my log some more once I get to Corkus, who knows, maybe I’ll learn some folklore from it, I’ve always loved folklore.

Yes there will be more logs coming, you'll get to learn more about Shadow soon. This story is just to get yall interested in the lore of it, the actual housing won't be done for awhile anyway.

I made a bad decision . . . I decided to buy a ship and sail to Corkus myself instead of using the Seaskipper to go to Selchar. Thing is, I have no clue where I am, in fact I don’t think I’ll ever make it to Corkus now, my ship crashed during a storm. I guess I’ll have to make some kind of SOS sign or something. Maybe the Corkians will see it. I don’t know. All I see is a sandy beach and . . . a dark green beam? I . . . I . . . I have to follow it!

I FOUND IT I FOUND IT, THE CRYSTAL IT'S HERE. In this town? What even is this place, it’s not Corkus I know that, the people there welcomed me with open arms which Corkians would never do, they usually look at us with the cold shoulder but these people seem to like me. Anyways, they're letting me study the Crystal here, and they have a post service! I can send letters to the boss! I guess the boss knows who they are? When I told them his name they knew who he was, they actually thought I was him because of my big nose. It seems like these people are from Fruma, maybe they know what it’s like over there. Anyways I’d best get some sleep, this place seems amazing, I can’t wait to study this Crystal!

The people here are quite strange, they seem to be worshiping some kind of dark beast, though I can’t determine what their strange religion is. They seem to understand though, all they ask is that I wear one of their cloaks whenever I'm out and about, I don’t mind this of course! Though I have been thinking weird thoughts recently, and they are concerning. I keep thinking about doing things that aren’t morally right, it’s getting more and more strange every day.

I’ve received a letter from my brother, apparently our other two brothers have apparently gone insane due to the meteors, and he’s going insane as well, slower than they did though. But this begs the question, am I going insane as well? Ohh I can’t be, that wouldn’t make sense, why would a green meteor shard make me go insane. That isolation probably turned them insane, I’ve been talking with the people here every day, I can’t even go insane! I’m going to keep studying this meteor until I find all of its secrets, I will make the boss proud!

Chapter Two: Interview


Recording from interview with Dr Legendary


Interviewer: Well hello people of Gavel, I’m here with Dr Legendary today to interview him about his Legendary Island. How about you say a few things about yourself Dr

Dr Legendary: Well I’d love to, hello all, my name is Dr Herbert Von Legendary, I’m the one who built and now runs Legendary Island! I’m excited to answer all of your questions!


Interviewer: I’m Glad to hear it! So Dr


Dr Legendary: Please, call me Herbert


Interviewer: Very well, so Herbert, what inspired you to build Legendary Island?


Dr Legendary: Well I’ve been wanting to start a business for a while now, I found out how profitable the fighting business is, and also wanted to have a little fun, I got an audience letter from the Corkian Council after impressing an extremely rude receptionist. Once I showed the Council my ideas, they were more than happy to fund this project, I told them I would need to research about the most powerful heroes and creatures first in order to get ideas for mechs for the challengers to fight. They funded this as well! And my trip started!


Interviewer: How did your research go?


Dr Legendary: Oh it was amazing, I learned so much about the world around me, I learned about people like Bob, and Mistress Qira of the Hive in Gavel, near the Dwarven town of Thanos no less, though my visit with her didn’t go very well, I lost my hand in the process! I also learned about an Orange Wybel, though I found it was heavily injured, poor thing was almost dead, I performed an “operation” on it to save it’s life, it now fights at my Legendary Island!


Interviewer: Um, well . . . Let’s not talk about the Wybel he heh heh. What are some things you’ve learned or seen while working here!


Dr Legendary: I’m glad you asked! You see, recently I’ve been seeing this strange dark green beacon from the canyons in the Ocean, I don’t know what it is but there have been reports of a shipwreck there. Anyone who’s tried to go there and returned has never been the same.


Interviewer: And what changes with them?


Dr Legendary: Well they seem to have an obsession with something specific, like their home, maybe their wife, or even themselves, they end up having to take medication, which is free here in the future province of Corkus!


Interviewer: Do you know anyone who’s tried to do this?


Dr Legendary: Oh many people, I always warn them but they never listen, they don’t even remember what happens there when they return! It’s almost like those memories were swept away!


Interviewer: Well, I think that’s all I need to know from you today, thank you Herbert. The people of Gavel will be very interested in this.


Dr Legendary: Oh it was my pleasure, I hope you come again, I’d love to answer more questions!


“That was the end of the Interview for the newspaper, shortly after that all of our scientists went missing”, said the assistant, “Of course they did”, replied the Boss. “It was probably the Crystals, notify our men that we are to move our operations to the Wynn Province, the rest of the company can handle themselves here in Gavel”. “Yes sir”, said the assistant.

Yeah I'm writing this in chapters now, thought I may as well since this is gonna be a decently long story, anyways I'll see yall next time for chapter three!

 

Chapter Three: Mission


The Guards were standing at the gate, waiting for some sort of threat to come, it usually didn’t, but not today. Today something was coming, whatever it was, the poor guards found out too late, for they now like six feet under. The dark cloaked large nosed insane man was inside the Fruman Walls, where there is no war to be spoken of inside, leaving only one guard alive, but traumatized by what had occurred..


Captain Regaby of the Kai Shi arrived soon after, and he and his men were horrified by what they saw, mutilated bodies oozing some green leaf like slime. Their bodies were so disgusting that some of the guards vomited. The surviving guard was in so much shock that she couldn’t speak, Captain Regaby had her treated for her wounds, and sent back home to recover mentally so she could tell them what had happened. Regaby didn’t show it often, but he did care about his men, they were His men of course. The Guards cleaned up the scene, and sent the bodies to the Castle to be studied by the Royal Scientists. They already knew what the green ooze was from. And they weren’t about to let this go. The Town of Shade needed to be stopped once and for all, and they weren’t going to hold back this time. These are some Entries the people of Corkus found washed up to them a few weeks after It occurred.


Entry #1: My name is Captain Howard Regaby of the Kai Shi, the Fruman Royal Guard. Before I begin I must say this. There is no war inside the Fruman Walls! Anyways, one of my Soldiers gave me this journal as a birthday present, very thoughtful of them I must say. I’ve decided to use it finally, to write about my experiences from this mission I am to go on. It will be tough, but we Will succeed for the sake of our Queen, we will lay down our lives for her if we have to. Allow me to explain. Yesterday when our Queen did not receive her message from Lieutenant Arthur of the Gate, she sent me and a few of my men to the Gate to see what was wrong. What we found there was terrible. Dead corpses, mutilated, a green slime with a leaf like texture oozing out of their bodies, only one guard survived. She is currently in our care as my medic is tending to her wounds, she isn’t speaking. Obviously she is traumatized by this, the poor thing will probably never recover from this mentally. I’m going to send her home tomorrow. The Queen and I already know where this came from, the Town of Shade, the story of this place is well known in Corkus, but is kept a big secret here in Fruma. We don’t want the people to panic over a stupid Green beacon of course. That wouldn’t do at all. The plan is simple, attack the town, kill every single one of those disgusting cultists there, and take whatever’s making the green beacon back to Fruma for studying. I don’t know if all of us will be back. Whatever the case, I’ll make sure to destroy those miscreants once and for All!
