SPOILER Reincarnation

Ok I know it’s a 4 year old quest, but I assume at least some newcomers don’t know what it is. On to the thread:

Although I’ve been here for 4 years now, I never understood one quest: Reincarnation. Is Bob actually dead, hence why we are teleported to heaven? Is it even heaven? Did he then just double die when we defeated him? Why do we have to prove ourselves to him? (Ok bc boss fight, but still) I thought Bob went to go fight a monster or something, so why would he be waiting for some strangers to fight him?

Usually I don’t question the logic behind quests, but since this quest is pretty important, I think it would be at least more reasonable to question it. I would like to see this quest to be reworked a bit someday to give more context about Bob, but that’s just me.

 

With recent retcons i don't think there's a solid explanation, but it used to just be the end of your journey to become as strong as you possibly could (by getting Bob's Mythic Weapon). There wasn't really content past that, and since these days there's far better weapons, it's not as fitting as an explanation.

As for him actually dying and whatnot, which isn't clear at all, I doubt you actually kill his reincarnation, as opposed to just defeating it, though that's also not clear.

oh the one thing i can answer for sure is

the boss you fight was never bob himself, just his "reincarnation" (hence the name and the pigman skull) Seeing as how you go to heaven (or something close to it), it could easily be his spirit, too.

 

I think he’s an impostor since that can’t be heaven because heavens not real

 

We needed to prove ourselves to him to show that we were powerful enough to protect the province from any sort of danger. And besides, if you brought together all 3 animals' power you were worthy enough to face him.

It was also, namely, to prove that someone was powerful enough to defeat the darkness which he had failed to do (Qira also had this goal when you took up her challenge, it wasn't just to have someone fight her army and just get rewards, she was actually looking for someone who could defeat the darkness.)

It's sort of Bob's little heaven place. However I doubt he double-died when we "killed" him. Instead his (Im guessing essence?) just dissipated back to somewhere and reformed.

Read the sealed letters, it makes a lot more sense once you read them.

 

let's just point out that the realm bob is in probably isn't actually called heaven
i think the CT are probably a lil more creative than that.

 

I guess, but then how or why did he reincarnate? I’m going with that it’s his spirit or something, but still. Doesn’t this conflict with Death’s Realm? I know that quest was mostly comical and just a explanation for the player's rebirth, but in Dark Descent the afterlife is like in Death's Realm, so there is some consistency at at least.

I did read the sealed letters, but they are still vague and they don't provide any explanation of why he did reincarnate. I thought the whole point of him fighting the monster was to finally stop the darkness or whatnot. Yeah, I get it that he wants to further protect the province and all that, but some parts don't make sense.

This kinda begs the question of is there even an afterlife at all? As mentioned before, we have Death's realm and the quest a Dark Descent, but they don't explain who is the world's creator. Is Charon also death or something? We know there are multiple gods and Bovemists, but we never hear about who created the world or if there is even a heaven.

Yeah, but it's the closest thing that looks like Bob's Realm. It's never explained either so it's the best thing to go off of.

 

What if Bob created his own realm just like skylaar? We know that creating a realm is possible and that Bob has similar power to Skylaar because Troms ditched Skylaar for Bob.

 

Slykaar never created a realm, he found a realm taken over by darkness with "a dark god". he just created the portal and took over a portion of it.

But perhaps Bob could pull it off, who knows.

also zed, him "dying" in the heaven-like realm sort of worked how in the Qira fight, she was just defeated, never killed.

That creates the plot hole that a level 60 ish boss that's a pushover even for the level it was meant for is as powerful as the legendary hero of Wynn that was the only one who could fend off Bak'al, but whatever, it's Wynn logic we're dealing with.

 

I guess, but he doesn't say anything afterward and he never appears again... so it's hard to tell.

I guess... but how and why though? We know Skylaar did it so he could get his revenge on everybody, but for Bob it's never mentioned so I highly doubt it's that. Plus it is his reincarnation, so it has to do with the afterlife or something.
