    Try Castle Crashers.
It's a cartoony hack and slash, and being a FPS player myself, I still loved it. do wait for a sale though, it goes down to $2.50 on sale

Fractured Space is a cool recently released game.
I haven't played it enough to make a solid decision, but it's worth checking out.

TF2 all the way, (oh and its free but you can buy cosmetics or keys to trade them to others to help you get more cosmetics if you want)

sure it may be a little overwhelming at first since you could potentially get stomped by people who played the game for over 2000+ hours

(including me but I was like 11 or 12 when I started so I really only gotten closer to "pub stomp" level this year)

and maybe be criticized for making decisions that would seem dumb in the eyes of us experienced players

(ex. putting sentries next to each other, picking sniper or spy when we don't need another one, etc)

However, being a more experienced TF2 player I thought that I should give some words of advice before anyone new wants to jump in...
(warning: may be long and therefore make the new player experience look more overwhelming than it should be, don't worry, if you follow along it shouldn't be bad)

    ____________________________________________________________

    1. as long as you read/watch some of the community made beginner guides including what is on the official TF2 wiki,

2.be aware of team composition, don't be the 3rd sniper or spy when we already have 1 (or 2 even)

    3. don't play the official competitive mode even if you think you're good enough after just one hour because most likely you're not (seriously that crap infuriates competitive players), instead stick to casual (while playing some of the more basic gamemodes) or even some community servers such as gshock before jumping into the more advanced modes like comp or MvM (mann vs machine)

4.DON'T use the rocket jumper as if it did damage (seriously, I'm surprised when these kids can't do something as brain dead simple as to read the description of a certain unlock)

    5. you don't "pocket" (only healing/giving overheal to one person) people just because they're a heavy or because of their expensive cosmetics (hats ≠ skill) as medic and not heal anyone else, I mean, the medic is a support class after all.

    6. You don't spam lenny face as if it were a regular emoticon 24/7 (or really any meme)

    7. When playing pyro you have the ability to use your compression blast (mouse 2) to extinguish teammates when on fire (seriously your medic will love ya), push players away (this is particular useful against an "uber combo"), or to reflect rockets or any other projectiles, this type of tactic is known as airblasting , though airblasting it a more advanced mechanic that new players shouldn't focus on when they start playing.

    8. Don't "rocketjump" when you have low health unless you're 100% that you have enough hp to survive (fall damage included)

    9. When playing soldier shoot as your enemies' footing.

    10. The default settings for TF2 are atrocious imo, so here is a video to help you on what to use, if you don't know how to activate "console" click here.

    11. When using the sandvich or any other lunchbox item you can throw it to your teammates and it'll heal them, your medic will love ya.

    12. use the jarate and madmilk to reveal clocked spies and extinguish teammates when theyre on fire.

    13. If you don't want to get shouted at and feel bad don't cap when playing the map "Hightower" cap = standing near the cart and using it to capture points (or maybe just don't play hightower at all, I honestly find that to be the better choice)

    14. When playing engineer you can "rotate" your buildings with mouse 2. You can also use mouse 2 to "carry" your buildings if you want to place it somewhere else, to do this highlight over it while standing a foot away from it or less and press the mouse 2 button.

    15. When placing buildings put them in a good spot to not make them so obvious or that they'll be easily destroyed from a distance. (This is especially true for teleporters)

    16. Don't "overextend" what is that? Basically its going to far into enemy territory where you don't have an easy way out. In fact it is not smart to stay away from your team unless you're playing spy or maybe even scout. This is especially true if you have a medic with you.

    17. If a medic (or dispenser) is healing you but you are holding a weapon that blocks more healing than usual (such as the escape plan) then switch off of it if you can.

    18. When playing medic and you are using the "Crusaders crossbow" don't use it over the "medi gun" that weapon should only be used at long ranges or if you need to heal someone in quick succession.

    19. When you want a "medkit" look around for anyone that needs it more than you, and if a medic is around, he always gets first priority on the medkit (tip: if your sandvich is recharging and you're on full health you can still pick it up to help fill it back up and proceed to give your sandvich or other lunchbox item to heal your teammates, they will love ya), same goes for ammo boxes and engineers.

    20. when playing sniper, don't run in with the smg as if it were CoD (haha such an original joke)

    21. When playing scout don't stand still while shooting, scout has one of if not the lowest heath pool in the game, doing this will just get you killed in seconds. Not to mention the whole concept of scout relies on moving all the time.

    22. When using ubercharge (or any other boost that the other medi guns have) as medic, see when it would be a good time to use it, try not to die and lose your hard earned uber (or as we would like to say; pop it don't drop it)

    23. Protect your medic and actively "spycheck" = shooting/attacking players that look like your teammates to see if they're really just a disguised spy (looking at you pyros)

    24. When playing medic don't run in front of your team, you should stay in the front line but not in front of everyone on your team when making a push, you are more vulnerable if you do this.

    25. The medi gun beam is longer than you think, so don't stand 3 or less feet from your healing target in a largely open space, you are more vulnerable and more likely to die.

    26. Quite a few weapons don't work at long range, and some aren't even effective at medium range, so don't use your minigun as if it were a sniper rifle.

    27. When playing pyro don't walk forward and hold mouse 1 with your flame thrower (this is known as w+m1) when the situation doesn't require it.

    28. When playing demoman you can use the sticky bomb launcher to set up traps, "sticky jump", and spread out that oh so goddamn beautiful damage. Just don't be the huge and utter waste of life by using it 99% of the time over the grenade launcher in casual and community servers because you can't aim and are too much of a coward to deal with your counters and you lack skill you dick...oh I'm sorry, My love-hate relationship with the sticky bomb launcher is showing up again.

    29. Known when to use certain unlockable weapons (read the description to see what they do), some weapons are very niche and are more effective in certain situations (ex. the sun on a stick is most effective if you have a friendly pyro, but who uses that weapon anyway?)

    30. Focus on the objective, ex. push the cart on payload and not just focus on kills.

    31. If you're playing medic, don't go battle medic (offensive medics who obviously go for kills and not heal), do that in 2fort or hightower ot something. In fact you should have the medi gun out 99% of the time when playing medic.

    32. if someone isn't shooting at you (especially at point blank range) or they're "dancing" (there are about 3 taunts for that, you'll figure that out later on) that means they're friendly. So don't piss them off, this is especially true in situations involving large crowds of friendlies and flamethrowers...

    33. disable "sprays" as there is a good chance that someone will spray some porno on a wall (as hot as it may be...what are you looking at me for?)

That is all for now, I could state more tips but that would take a while, a whole youtube video even! But if you follow just some of these tips, you should be way ahead of about 99% of the new players in this game, I'm telling you these tips so you can make the most out of this amazing game, plus our community as great as it can be, is rather small compared to most popular games and we need to have our community to grow as much as it can...

Oh and Bastion is also a great game...

I would just stick to a genre you love. If you arent the kind of guy that likes to play a game for months, get into indie games.

    Personally, I'd recommend

    1. Undertale (If you like story driven and choice type games)

    2. Binding of Isaac rebirth (If you like rogue-like/bullet hellish games)

    3. Terraria (Its like a 2D modded minecraft)

    4. Garry's mod (Super sandbox and multi-gamemodes [Like minecraft])

Definitely Niche. Or ARK: Survival Evolved. Or if you want to play with your friends in a FPS game, Hybrid Animals. Or even Rocket League/Shellshock Live. (And maybe Slime Rancher) Lots of choices, I'd recommend just looking through a favourite genre.
