Render Raytraced 8k 320 Chunk Render Distance Wynn

    As you've probably noticed by now, a lot of youtubers have been sponsored by Mojang, Microsoft, MSI and Nvidia recently. This has been to advertize the launch of official raytracing support for minecraft.

    Too bad that everything that could possibly be wrong with it is wrong. To start off, it's exclusive to people who not only have one of the more expensive RTX cards, but also bother to play the garbage bedrock edition of minecraft. To make matters worse, despite being made by professionals, running on an edition of minecraft that's written on a more optimized language, and even having access to hardware acceleration, it still performs on an equal level to its competitor, Sonic Ether's pathtracing raytracing shader. The sheer fact that official raytracing that's made by megacorporations looks and performs worse than community made shaders, raytraced or not, is just a final spit in the face from Mojang. Not to mention how sponsored youtubers are asked to straight up lie and hide any praising mentions of shaders in their videos.

    But that's enough about the rant. These events brought me back to Sonic Ether's PTGI shader, and made me wonder what Wynn would look like with raytracing. Wynn players, myself included, have taken some raytraced screenshots before, but those had their limitations due to a lack of compatible normal and specular maps to represent material properties of blocks on WynnPack. They're pretty much mandatory to make raytracing, and shaders in general, look great.

    So, I made normal and specular maps of my own, specifically catered for Wynn's textures (going to be releasing it as a resource pack soon, probably)



    After all this, I logically spent 2-3 hours running across the province to load chunks for cool screenshots. Twice, actually, since temporal antialiasing wasn't too big of a fan of low fps, and toggling it off reloads chunks. Admittedly, wide open shots are a pretty terrible way to represent raytracing in any capacity, but either way, here are the results.

    Wynn plains, as seen from Mount Wynn. Unfortunately I hadn't been to Nesaak at this point yet, and the image is messed up by bad antialiasing, so ignore the dark outlines.

    Roots of corruption, Detlas, Almuj, Ternaves and Bremminglar as seen from on top of the highest corruption spike. Lighting looks a bit bad since it's coming from behind.

    A sorta random semi closeup image I thought looked cool. Also messed up by bad antialiasing, though.

    Wide shot from Nesaak forest, littlewood, time valley, craftmas town and other surrounding areas as seen from the tallest corruption spike. Shamefully dark lighting, but the server would've restarted before the next day comes.

    Just a small image of Elkurn, with Mount Wynn, Time Valley, animal dungeon, corruption spikes and Nesaak forest in the background. One of the images messed up by bad antialiasing, so ignore the dark outlines.

    -As was mentioned in the post, I'm also going to be releasing a custom made normal x specular resource pack for Wynn soon

    Why did they do official ray tracing support again? It looks cool and all, but like you said there’s already support for it. Especially since most people can’t even run it. And it’s Minecraft for crying out loud! Games like the Witcher 3 and GTA 5 don’t even have official support for it!

    Ray tracing even makes the game look worse when you visit the nether or the end. And when it rains everything looks too glossy:

    I think the main problem is they're trying to make 200 meter tall mountains look like 20 km tall ones. Like, the shape isn't even all that unnatural; it looks kind of like mountains in southeast china

    It's just that for some reason, they're covered in snow rather than vegetation, which shouldn't be the case

    The only build I did on Wynn, My shitty grind cave made it in to the last picture whoop.

    But holy shit this is seriously E P I C.

    I'd love to have this graphics card, sadly, I'm just a poor uni student. :(

    ll this cool software at the end of the day is just a marketing ploy for people to buy the newset most expensive generation of graphics cards. Nividia are infamous for doing this kind of stuff. When the GTX cards first came out. Esepcailly, cards like the 1050 and 1060 they rolled out PhysiX a cool gimmick adding physics to certain games. (As half life was huge back then).

    Now they are basically doing the same thing, drawing customers in to buy slightly better, yet extremely expensive graphics cards, which does the gimic of ray tracing.

    Yeah, wynn mountains are there to serve as a back drop than anything else. Its a game design thing not an Aesthetic thing, they are there to block players acess to certain areas and to restrict vision. think of them as glorified walls.

    Those look really good, wished my pc would be able to play with 8 render distance with fps that's not in the range of 0-15 looks like the only time I would see something like this is here
