In the News Random Facts Of Irl History

I want to make a thread for really interesting historical facts that no one really knows. If anyone knows something interesting facts about history IRL, post them below. Sources are optional, but please don't post fictional "facts". I'll start us off:

-Robotics is a little around 2000 years old
-Christopher Columbus never actually went to North America, he went to the Bahamas 4 times and died before he could go a fifth time. We also have no idea what he looked like.
-Captain Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, a notorious pirate, saved the US state of North Carolina from economical collapse.
-"Privateers" are pirates hired by the Us government to fight pirates. It was the only way to end the Golden Age of Piracy, as the US Navy at the time was unable to take down numerous pirates.
-We knew about the Earth being round since about 240 BC, we even knew about it's approximate size and distance from the moon.
-We have no idea where the Mayan empire went.
-The world's largest graveyard is in China, the Great Wall of China.

 

Ah, history... the class that always has long ass lectures and crap ton of writing...

 

What history class did you have? History was hella fun, learned about so much. Also, these facts I learned from my own research.

 

No, my history class is nothing like that. I'm just referencing most of the classes I've seen.
