Public Opinion On The New 1.20 Weapon Skins

So, for those that haven't been able to participate in the 1.20 Hero Beta, a lot of the weapon skins got changed, and based on what I've seen and responses from others, the weapon skins are...different. And a lot of people are not thrilled about it, so I'm curious how others feel about them (Note that these are only SOME of the changes, not all. And I don't wanna go spoiling all the new changes, so I'm only showing a few).

Most of them are pretty good.
The rainbow bow is less so, but other than that I quite like the changes.
I guess when the update releases I can see them next to all of my other weapons and this might change my opinion, but I do think these are for the better.

I saw the new Thunder Dagger in Rene's video and I reallyyy like it over the old one, not going to lie. Can't wait for it to change.

 

What have they done to the air staff? That's my favorite skin as it is currently ;-;

The Air Wand is an absolute travesty that I'll never accept into my heart, but I'll get used to it.

Other gear looks great!

 

Air wand will forever rest in peace, I at least like the particle effect for it but it smol now :c

 

I didnt know that the changed the weapon skins.

they are fine but the "rain" bow looks really bad .. like REALLY bad

and the air wand looks like a nuclear desaster. That was the best weapon model we had and you change it?? What the fck is going on. Please explain. What did you think?? It looks like a plasma wand from a futuristic mmo with magic! THE OLD ONE WAS THE PERFECT AIR WAND.

ok Im really mad about this. I always chose air weapons just because the model was so cool

I still dont like the air wand (Zelda is going to change it; thank you so much) but this what I wrote seems too agressive... Im sorry and hope that I didnt hurt ur feelings or something

@Salted please safe the air wand. It is such a beautiful model as it is now. Help me :(

 

It's times like these when I'm glad I have daily crates and weapon skins to cover up some of these monstrosities :P

Really want that pink branch wand, it looks so, so good...

 

Honestly to me these are all pretty decent upgrades (thunder spear especially, I really didn't care for the original thunder spear), *except* for air wand. I do however think that the old design was a bit.. much, this one toned it down a bit, and I do like it still. Gonna take a bit to grow on me.

 

Here's a picture of some of the biggest changes to the models, just thought it'd be useful to show some of these.
It seems the theme was to simplify everything, and lean more into good texturing than model complexity (with one exception; the only model I made, go figure)

 

I mean, it feels like they redid the designs just for the sake of innovation (not my quote)
The renovation of most cities and places in Wynn was needed and well executed, but some of the new weapon designs just don't feel natural, they should have just left out the ones that were already good and redone the bad ones
Great job with the thunder spear tho, hoping to see more designs like that soon
Edit: nvm they killed the earth spear, my opinion on the new weapons has gone downhill

 

New handle on the air wand looks way too thick and I still don't love the thunder spear (though I don't like the original either), but seeing the new models like this make me like them a lot more, especially the earth bow and dagger and the thunder dagger. The earth hammer looks weirdly small though, I guess it looks more like a hammer but I really dug the warhammer type handle it had before.

Looking closer at the thunder dagger, the blades also look too square, it might look more natural if the corner of each blade was removed to give it a bit more of a curve

The thunder spear looks amazing, the thunder dagger is really good too and the earth bow is one of the best models Ive ever seen!

The air wand is really sad tho.
It could have been THE PERFECT redo of the weapon but this wind animation which made it the coolest weapon model in the game (my opinion) is missing. The new staff itself looks amazing but the animation...

Please Kiocifer, youre a great Wynn artist and Ive seen a lot of your awesome work. Please talk to Salted and bring the wind animation back. I would REALLY appreciate that <3

 

The new earth wand weapon skin is chubby as FUCK I have never related to a wand more

 

I only made one of the new models (the earth bow) The rest of the models were made by Zeldahuman; I don't necessarily agree with his choice to change some of the weapons; I personally really liked earth spear, and while the new one blends better with the earth relik skin (which is the intention), I can agree with all of you that it's unfortunate some of the better skins were reworked, regardless of how good the new ones are (From a technical level, they're really well done).

I'll ask and see if I can (or Zelda can) do some slight adjustments to the weapon skins as feedback comes in (I know I personally think the thunder spear is a little too saturated to fit in with wynn's more warm tones), but there probably won't be any outright reversions to older models.

Silver lining, I will be working on a pack that contains all of the old models, so that in case you really can't live with the new ones, you can use it as an addon pack.

anyways the earth bow is my favourite bow model now. It was really ugli but the new one... OOOF this is such a great design. Good job - Im amazed

 

For me they feel too... polished. It is the same as what happened to MC resource pack, changing it from pixelated to more polished.

I don't really support the change, only the thumder spear looks better

 

Also, to clarify, if anything looks weirdly positioned in first person, that's kind of a bug, so if the air bow or water bow look super janky when you hold them, don't worry, they'll be set back to what they were pre-update (it's a bit of a problem with how the models were moved and changed around- there was a lot of pack organization and that caused some strange things to happen because about half of the models had their positions tied to "parent" models which was really just a mess all-around)
