    Summary of What Happened

    How It Started

Deji's neighbour came to his house to pick up a parcel, and she got scared of Deji's dog (called Tank) who ran out to play with her.

    The Fight
She began whacking Deji's dog with the parcel, causing Tank to suffer from cuts and bruises after the neighbour's beating. Tank responded in self defence (fight/flight response) by nipping the neighbour.

    The Aftermath
The neighbour called the police, requesting that Deji's dog was to be euthanised. The police took Tank to their Kennel to stop Tank's stress.

    The Moral Issue
The police claimed to take Deji's dog at a set date, but they actually collected him beforehand without informing Deji of this.

    What now?
A petition has been made in an attempt to save Deji's dog. If you want to help save Deji's Dog, feel free to sign the petition - and to tell others about this too!

    I did specify the neighbour's perpective -

Of course from her perspective she feels like she is a victim - understandable. However after having everything cleared up by Deji, and considering their past history of the neighbour's friendly interactions with the dog, she should not take the case any further - and neither should the police.

Launching 1 or a few Pre-emptive strikes can be justified, but the amount of force that the courts will consider reasonable will be much lower than fighting back after an attack. This is important since She launched a large number of pre-emptive strikes before Tank even considered nipping her. Of course she was on Tank's property which can arguable be accounted for in defence of the neighbour.

However even with that defence, can attacking a dog to the point of cuts and brusing be considered reasonable? Especially when such damage was done by a parcel? Remember that Tank launched no attacks until after he was injured, so there was quite a large window of time for even somebody in severe panic to cancel their attacks - and to realise Tank was indeed harmless. On top of that she has previously experienced interactions with Tank, having knowledge beforehand of his harmlessness - making her reaction arguable even further away from what is considered reasonable.

owch my hands please appreciate this wall of words thanks

Disclaimer: I don't wanna start a flame war so please keep responses helpful / useful / informative. Thanks

My bad, I thought that her being scared was what Deji thought.

Ah don't worry about it, tbh I'm siding with Deji so my responses might be slightly biased. However I'll try my best to stay objectively correct here

I was worried my previous response was too rude but I guess it was okay :D

You do realize that signing an online petition isn't going to do anything, right? It's good to be aware and all (to a degree), but that petition has no legal binding. If this was a kickstarter or GoFundMe then it would be different. It just seems meaningless and token, which is the opposite of what the people who sign it claim to be.

    True

It's very unlikely but maybe maybe maybe the police might change their mind if they receive severe public (maybe even media) backlash (in the sense of the police's immoral acts being shown to the public further, to the point of their reputation going downhill). Idk worth a shot since it takes a few seconds that's my take on it. My gut feeling is that I said something super dumb but nvm

More importantly, Deji is taking the case to court so hopefully he can settle it there and then

No police officer has ever changed their actions because of an online petition with no legal binding. They probably don’t even know what change.org is. They aren’t some fast food restaurant or business that rely on customers either. The only people they take orders from are their chiefs, judges, and higher ups, not some anonymous people on the internet.

Assuming what they said to be true, they should get their dog back. But as a rule of thumb, you don’t put people who are afraid of dogs in situations with your dog, no matter how well trained they are. I’m kinda suspicious about how they said the neighbor knew the dog for a long time because it’s obvious that she was afraid of dogs and might have thought the dog would be locked up or something.
