Point Of No Return

I am at the part where you have to freefall and avoid the spikes. I have avoided the spikes 3 times but when I hit the black ground, I die. How do I fix this?

 

I assume this near the end of the quest, found here.

I'd suggest using your movement spell last second to throw yourself and reset your fall. Or you could use those boots that remove/lessen fall damage.
