Art Pixel Art?

I'm very new to this but I've been playing lots of Starbound (basically Terraria + space travel) and I was inspired to make a small painting.

Anyways, here's my final result. If you don't see it, it's a broken column with the hilt of a katana sticking out. A ribon tied to the sword and blown out candles.

I probably should've done a proper background, but this is fine for now. Give me feedback if you're experienced with pixel art or something of relation to it.

right now, the colors are pretty flat. Try adding some more (but not too much) contrast between the highlights and the shadows. If you have burn/dodge tools, you can use those to easily do it. zees vil make eet vaady preetee
