Major World Event, both times attempted, I didn't fight it with everyone else

Last night I attempted the major world event at the portal with a friend in my party with me, but instead of getting to fight the boss with everyone else that was at the portal, when the fight started, it was just me and my friend, and after we both died about 10 seconds in, it said everyone died and the event was over. I thought it might have been because of us being in a party together, but another friend of mine tried it today without being in a party and the same thing happened, except he was in the fight solo. Does it just say the event ended because we died, and we still actually were part of the bigger fight just without being able to see everyone, or did it actually bring us into a separate fight with the boss?

 

You only enter the fight with your party,
Every party fights a separate fight, if you're alone it's solo.

 

K, thanks for the information. I had heard from other people that it was supposed to be one big fight with everyone attacking at once so I thought something might have went wrong.

 

Yeah, I thought so too, it would have been really cool but I get why they didn't do it

That's how a lot of people were given the impression that the fight worked at the beginning, too. :/
