Well, I mean, not a character but what is it? Like, a hunter or knight or amphibian because I cannot tell from looking at the face.

Ah. I was also wondering, if you don't use a detailer (because frankly I can't make something with that style of detail with my drawing skills), then how do you position each color? It's certainly not just random...

It is less complicated than what you think. I won't answer you because I am tired of having to make up the hard work for others. It's 2 years of hard work(making skins like that), which I've already given away—and I regret, quite frankly—so search for yourself and be proud that you learned alone.

There is a lot of color theory online, search on it. But if you search on it, just copy it and don't understand it yourself, then there is no point in doing anything if you won't think.
