I can't really tell what distinguishes these from fantasy. They're very nice builds, but I might need some explaining.

The only nitpick I have would be the double stone slabs that break the integrity of the beams for the roof, but other than that, yeah
also might want to not showcase stuff you build with shaders and texture packs

I mean I can somewhat see that shaders could add too much atmosphere and cover up the details of a build, even though I personally think that it should be the builder freedom to present their work however they want.
Texture pack, on the other hand, is a complete choice by favor that should not be questioned whatsoever. You have to realize that default is just one of the many texture packs, and the things you build in one texture pack can look very different when put in another.

Exactly my opinion, you can make even a dirt house look decent with shaders on.
Textures pack are made to enchance, and just like shaders, can make even a bad looking build look halfway decent.
Now, if you'd give me a texture pack like those who add vanilla looking blocks and dirt slabs, for instance, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
If you start building with a TP, it might look horrible in Vanilla, and in other TP as well.

I cannot disagree with this more. Enhancement over default texture is merely one aspect of most texture packs. The main purpose of a texture pack IMO is to change and introduce new textures that are more suited for certain style of builds. The difference in palettes can change the way of building completely.
Exactly, then why should people ask a builder to show his work in default texture, when the builder clearly chose the current texture packs because their build looks good, or when they have built the whole thing in the said texture pack? You most likely are a default-texture builder because you're probably so used to seeing default aesthetics that you can easily spot what looks good and what doesn't, but when you look at builds in another texture you can't quite as much differentiate a "bad" build from a "good" build.

If you have to build in a certain texture pack (like the content team here) then sure, they utilise it well, and they HAVE to build in it for new players, because that's the way the player will see it anyways, with TP enforcement and all.

On second thought, I actually don't mind seeing it in pictures if it fits the mood, but if you start building in it first, then it's still a mistake to me. Especially if you want to show them to friends ingame who might not have/like your texture pack.

Except I just critiqued Zephy's work when he used a TP. I might be near-sighted, but I know when textures don't match, whether they'd be default ones or custom ones.
Keep in mind that when people see a build in a TP, their critique might be biased because they don't like the way your TP looks, but if you show it in its naked state, this factor is irrelevant.

I think your build looks more medieval than anything. It doesn't have many steampunk vibes imo.
In order for a build to be considered steampunk, it needs to have somewhat of a Victorian architecture, some steam and industrial mechanisms, and maybe some fantasy factors.

With that said I am interested to see that building in the right in the background of your picture. Honestly I see more steampunk in that building than the ones in the foreground lel
