It's all well and good to say class base defense (Warrior 120%, Assassin 100%, Mage 80%, Archer 60%, Shaman 50%) but that doesn't really practically say anything about what that means. So I put together this little spreadsheet to show you the practical difference between the classes. Don't know if someone's already done this before and I just never saw it but if they did please yell at me in the comments about how I'm a plagiarist and also hate babies.

the base defense numbers may be slightly misleading, as a better way to think about it is via damage reduction: Mage practically has -20% damage reduction, so to simplify it, Mages take 1.2x damage from all attacks. Shamans have -50% damage reduction, so, they actually take 1.5x damage from all attacks instead of 2.0x, which many could assume.

So assuming war scream is a flat boost, warrior would have +40% damage reduction, and would be taking 0.6x damage from all attacks, correct?

War Scream is multiplicative with base defense, so a Warrior with T3 War Scream has actually about +36% damage reduction (0.64x damage from all attacks), assuming I calculated it correctly

The way base defense is explained is very stupid in my opinion. If your base defense is 50%, that would sound like it's half of what 100% defense would be. However, 100% means no damage reduction at all. In turn, that means that 50% base def would be half of nothing, thus it wouldn't matter.

I think it's quite far fetched to assume that 50% base def means 1.5x damage taken. Because, then, 200% base defense would mean 0x damage taken. It just makes no sense.

The entire base def explanations should be reworded to just give the straight up damage reduction. e.g. 20% for warrior, 0% for assassin, -20% for mage, etc.
Alternatively, show how much damage the class takes. e.g. 0.8x for warrior, 1.2x for mage, 1.5x for shaman, etc.

tl;dr: current formulation of base def is stupid and should be changed to something more logical

This thread has something more logical, that being class defense based on how much defense you need to reach certain amounts. I just put in the raw values without any regard to presenting them because this thread has a way to see how it actually effects each class.

I apologize if it sounded like I meant your explanation. I meant to say that the current way of explaining class defense by the wiki etc. is stupid. Your explanation is actually quite useful
