I think this is the 5th time the series has "ended." But who knows, maybe this will be the final time. It's still a huge clusterfuck of a story, but at this point no one is sweating the details. Hopefully now FNAF will finally rest (until the movie comes out, oh god...) along with its 4 billion inbred clones. I don't really hate FNAF that much, but boy do I pray that another game won't follow in its foot steps of storytelling.

Anyway, if this is the last of it, what did you like (or NOT like) about the series? Did you think that this game would take off the way it did?

I actually quite liked the story in the beginning. Never been a crazy fan of horror games but I thought the lore was extremely interesting especially because it wasn't easily accessible. However, the plot just began to become too complicated, retconned, and convoluted that I didn't care enough to follow it anymore. Plus, the creator really milked this series and its fandom dry.

    There's literally a Slenderman movie.

I bet you theres going to be an FNAF movie in three or two years.

Also, I never really cared about FNAF. It feels kind of blank.

What’s the whole point of fnaf?
”Check monitors or we do a cheap jumpscare and you die”
    So checking monitors simulator?
    -Almost no gameplay
-Jumpscares are cheap, and not real horror (Metroid fusion does creating fear really well, and its a metroidvania not even a horror game)
-lore makes no sense and is still stupid (ghosts of childeren taking over animatronics to kill guards because some purple guy killed them? SERIOSLY?)
-At this point is just messing with/milking fanbase

I have no idea why it’s so famous

ikr in the first game it was fun, like this creepy purple dude killed children to possess animatronics, but then as more games came out it just became SUPER confusing and hard to remember it all

Yeah, the story just became very convoluted and hard to understand. I never really played to much of it (I don't particularly enjoy jumpscares) but the story was unique and interesting... until they kept on adding more games and making the lore of the game be, for the most part, speculation.

The problem is with fnaf is for some reason I always get the feeling that Scott is just making up the lore as he goes along. This won't be MatPat's final theory, because Scott will find a way, game or otherwise, to mind fuck his fans into submission.

I personally have a lot of respect for FNAF. Sure it was milked towards the end, but I mean, think of the origins. The creator was insulted for his animating skills, so he took that criticism and turned it into a great horror game. One guy made an empire of a fanbase and created lore than absolutely everyone was interested in at one point. It really was a juggernaut of indie games. It, however, suffered in the same way most popular things do. The fanbase got so big, that 2 things happened. 1. People hate it. People have this ability and need to hate anything thats mainstream. If it's incredibly popular, so popular that you see it everywhere, it's going to be hated by a lot of people. This is the same thing that happened to Minecraft and is currently happening to fortnight. 2. The fans expected too much. Due to the fans wanting more and more, the creator was kinda forced to milk it. The majority of fans couldn't handle a subjective ending up for interpretation, so he had to keep a sense of mystery while also giving people a solid enough ending. It's why it's so convoluted and overdone. FNAF was just another example of something becoming so popular, that that very popularity was its downfall.

FNAF has becoem so convoluted, so messed up at this stage that I no longer have any interest remaining in the series. Take Old Man Consequences advice "Leave the demon to his demons, rest your own soul". There's a time when the series fatigue wears on. At this point we have gone from starry eyed fools to cynical pricks. I have respect for Scot, but none left for the community. It just keeps on getting more and more convoluted, what the series really needs right now is some hardcore answers. None of the mumbo jumbo crap. Then we can have a breath of fresh air, and then maybe we can continue. But at this stage, I think mine and 90% of the people's interest has vaned away in FNaF. The last game really did have an air of finality to it. It's better to end on a high note than to drag your own reputation through the mud(CoD please take a hint for gods sake)

Also: Dr Zed this thread came out really really late, that was like 3 months ago, I think.

Ehh.... well I do agree that the popularity was its downfall, it wasn’t the way you described it. Scott definitely could have done a better job with the franchise as a whole (especially FNAF world, Jesus Christ), and the toxicity of the franchise definitely contributed. While I do kinda like Scott and all, what really irked me about the whole franchise is that it was purposely vague, unfinished, and convoluted. And not because it was artistic in any sense of the word, or that it had a well-thought story to tell, or even to impart is with some deep, hidden message. But just drag out the lore so only people who cared enough like Matt Patt could ‘interpret’ each game. It’s just not good storytelling.

Hyper Light Drifter's story is ambiguous and told completely visually, yet it isn't convoluted or bat shit. Same with plenty of other indie games like Little Nightmares. And those games actually have other things to offer like gameplay. It’s not like people play FNAF to play the same game mechanics for 6 games...

And just because a game gets popular doesn’t mean that the creator has to milk it. UnderTale was also an indie game made by one guy that exploded in 2015, yet Toby never made a bunch of shitty, similar sequels. And you can argue that UnderTale's fanbase is as bad, if not worse, than FNAF's.

Oh shit I just realized that this was a fucking revive. Also I do agree that FNAF has gotten very very convoluted and it would be better to just end it on a high note than becoming the next CoD milked dry for all it's worth until nothing remains but a dessicated shell of it's former self.

Just to clarify btw, you can enjoy FNAF and any other piece of entertainment, and not everyone who is in a fan base is toxic. It’s just that the minority can be very, VERY vocal sometimes.
