    cata changes are super questionable, its essentially just a nerf with the context we have currently. maybe all daggers are getting nerfed because of some super cool assassin ability, but I dont know, man

    This is meant to all the posts accusing the IMs (funny, we didn't actually suggest the guardian change, but w/e) of disregarding wars/hating fun/being psychopathic monsters/whatnot but I don't want to go click reply to all so I'll reply to this one directly.

    Please stop reading every single change and refusing to consider that other things in the game will be changed as well.

    With the whole ability tree, wars were already gonna need a rebalance—and with the guardian change, which Salted put forward and decided with the IMs back in November/December (well before I was an IM) nothing is different. Wars aren't going to stay exactly the same, they will be rebalanced to account for this change and all the other new ones.

    I'd like to direct everyone to the comment Ichika made too because I think it's a good attitude to have about this sort of thing:

    This change, as scary as it looks at face value, sets the groundwork for tank options actually existing in Wynn. I feel like a broken record at this point, but again please consider that other things will be changing too; part of the reason Salted pushed for this change was explicitly so that other classes can have tank capabilities, and it isn't that much of a leap to consider that maybe having damage redirection be so centralized to one mythic (and what, a few raid buffs) is not healthy for that goal. Hence, nerf + rebalance.

    my opinion is literally irrelevant as i don't war or own a guardian
    but like
    IMs and the ct as a whole spent like a year on this, and they probably know how warring works, even if they don't do it or prioritize it

    do ya'll really think they'll just ruin raids or tank warrior as a playstyle
    plus they had to nerf guardian in theory due to paladin probably being way too good w/ it

    anyways goodbye imma hide under my shulker shell as i get bombarded with hate which is honestly understandable since my two cents are worth nothing

    You only adressed Guardian for wars there but I'll wait for the beta to see if there's anything to compensate (like perks that redirect dmg) outside of them :)

    and besides, guardian netfrf was to prolly stop paladin from being OP, ok??
    yall just taking one thing and ripping it out of context
    transcendence nerf was prolly due to assassins may be getting some nice spel cost reductions abilities

    they're ignoring the fact that IMs neither made the guardian change nor are in charge on balancing wars, I just don't care to argue at this point with the stuff people have been throwing at me today and yesterday

    I can understand that, but wouldn't it be better to get it to a somewhat balanced state before releasing changelog/beta so people don't panic sell?

    This is the balanced state, according to those responsible for balancing wars within the CT, and IMs agreed that a nerf was needed for other parts of the game as well as warring as far as we can gauge the state of that (this may shock some people in this thread, but just because you're not actively playing something doesn't mean you can't understand how it works and what people are using to play). However, as we do also intend to be transparent and communicate with players, if the Guardian major id nerf ends up being harsher than was intended for whatever factors additionally changing (the ability tree, various unrelated item changes, unrelated war balance changes, et cetera) after testing using the full picture (which we can otherwise only predict and simulate), we are fully open to revisiting this change, ideally before the full update drops.

    And would you instead prefer that we don't announce changes, don't give people the opportunity to discuss it both beforehand and while testing and don't reconsider things? As that is really the only way to prevent people over-reacting to item change announcements and panic selling or buying items off the Trade Market. We can't give people a guarantee that a change can happen, especially not one for something as unique as the Guardian major id, and we also can't guarantee that the first announced change will be later adjusted. We recommend that people hold off from buying and selling until an item patch actually drops in-game, but we can and will not stop people from still going for it anyway.

    And for those worried that you are now going to be unable to beat certain HQs- that is intentional. Through Guardian (as well as several other factors that are not coincidentally also receiving nerfs this coming update such as the defense skill point effect nerf), players exceeded the level of difficulty players were expected to beat by Salted by quite a large margin and threw off his intended balance for guild wars by quite a bit.

    We also don't ignore people that war or warring in general when it comes to item balancing, though do please realize that items don't suddenly wildly change in use going from non-warring content to warring, and that communication is a requirement if you want to be heard- ideally not involving hasty accusations about the IMs intents or capabilities once a change that negatively affects you happens.


    Right, that would seem odd. Yes, we want to keep the current -1, as an effective nerf to Cataclysm. Other mana or spell cost stats will receive a roughly 5 times multiplier instead.

    I’d say the hqs in wars need a fair bit of rebalancing as well.. they’re kinda... just a little bit..

    almost ohko powerful ._.


    Anyway, the main thing I’m worried about in this update is how enemy damage output is currently balanced around the current defensive attributes of the player, said attributes generally being health, manual dodging and defense and agility sp with their simplistic functionality.

    The new defensive system makes some daring changes to that, and I’m worried that those changes and the modern enemy damage output won’t be... compatible per se.

    I get that the new skill tree abilities are supposed to compensate for this, but I don’t really have much faith in that remedy considering that the majority of abilities that have been revealed seem to cater more to offense and teamwork, leaving self-defense abilities as a minority.

    I hope I’ll be proved wrong though, as there are still numerous abilities that haven’t been revealed yet.



    Whew, that was a weight off my chest, just wanted to share my thoughts :D

    Very valid concerns for sure. I think between the few self-defense abilities that have been shown alongside some of the movement ones (maneuverability = survivability!!) beta will be at least manageable on release, and I'm sure salted will have an eye on mob balancing damage-wise too
