is this a quest item or something else?

so i was exploring yesterday and i found an item with the description:

Laboratory Key

A strange key engraved with a symbol of two arrows in the shape of a circle.
What could it possibly open?

Untradable Item

is this a quest item? im quite curious about it but i wasn't sure if i had just collected a quest item before i was supposed to or if it was something for a secret discovery.
i found it in a cave on the coast of the desert, south east of half moon island if that helps.
